This is probably some of the best modern, political punk available. Anti-Fascist, Anti-Nationalists, Anti-Hate, Anti-Anything that's gonna fuck up the human race anymore. Pro-Freedom. It's so nice to catch a band so dedicated to the audience and to the scene. Any fans of so-called punk bands like Greed Day or Offspring need to check out Anti-Flag. This is the real deal. Die For the Government is a great album by a great band. Don't forget the other two releases...they're just as amazing.

Anti-Flag....true punk rock,

This is my favorite punk band since the Dead Kennedys. AF really has a good message to their music, unlike the so called punk bands who are really pop. I liked every song on this album, some more than others. If you want to get back to the roots of punk and like hardcore awesome punk music, buying this CD is a MUST! If you get a chance to see them in concert, do. ANTI-FLAG KICKS A-S-S!

I think it's too bad that so many people decided to give a negative review of Anti-Flag because of the way they feel about "our brave men and women in uniform." No matter whether or not you agree with their sentiments, I think it's ridiculous that people scream bloody murder at the band because they make fun of America and the government, especially when you consider that this CD was released in 1996, FIVE YEARS before 9/11. Likewise, I personally think that it is the right for everybody to express their opinion, no matter how distasteful you may find it. After all, isn't that what we're supposedly fighting this war for? To protect freedom and democracy (har har)? If we're supposed to ban this kind of music because we don't like what the artist has to say, doesn't that kind of make the whole war pointless? What good is fighting to defend a right if you can't exercise it in the first place? After all, noone complained when Toby Keith sang "We'll put a boot in your $*#, it's the American way." Personally, if I'd spent the last 8 or 9 months getting shot at in Iraq, I'd probably agree with some of the songs on this CD. Oh well, onto the review. This CD is probably Anti-Flag at their finest, although I haven't really heard much of the new stuff. While they do have a tendancy to take things to extremes and occasionally smack of whiny, know-it-all, "I'm an anarchist, aren't you afraid of me?" teenage snottiness, there is no denying that this is as close as any band has gotten to the Sex Pistols in decades. The songs while musically simplistic are extremely catchy and will have you singing along in no time. Anti-Flag has mastered the use of strategically placed "ooohs" and "ahhhs" in the choruses to accent the actual lyrics. Coupled with scathing critiques of governments in general and conservative Americans in particular, this album devlivers catchy, get-under-your-skin music with intelligent and angry politics. A must for any punk fan! As to the reviewers who say that this band should move to North Korea, I think that maybe you should consider a move there yourselves, since you seem to be the ones so in favor of censorship. Or if you have a time machine handy, try 1930's Italy.

A landmark album for anti-flag.,
By
This review is from: Die for the Government (Audio CD)
This is the first anti-flag album and I didnt like it at first, but it quickly grew on me. This album is less accessable than their current work, but still great. Anti-flag are your classic anti authoritarian, anti patriotism, etc, punk band. Their main influences being the sex pistols and the uk subs, they create brilliant album. The highlight here is really the title track, you've got to die for your government, which is an ironic attack on the government, reminiscent of the sex pistols' God save the queen and the dead kennedys' kill the poor, among others. I know a lot of people dont like them, because they are getting really popular, but so what, just because most of their audience are posers, doesnt make the message any less valid, or the music any less great. And to all those patriotic idiots, LOL, maybe one day you'll wake up. Probably not, though.

Before I begin, I'd like to state something. Everyone has a right to say what they feel. It's the FIRST ammendment of the constitution. numero uno. Why should these guys be denied that right? Simply because they have a problem with the system? OK, we'll change the ammendment to "freedom of religion, speech, press, and assembly UNLESS you talk smack about the wretched current shape of things. Seriously, that ammendment lets you right these reviews, you're exercising the right you think they should be denied if all you do is rant about them being "unamerican". That having been said, this is a very good CD. When I first got it, I wasn't too crazy about it. The vocals didn't really hit, largely because I couldn't understand them, and I would go off and listen to something else for a while. After I had gotten thru this CD a few times though, it really started to grow on me, and it's becoming one of my favorite punk albums. Sure, it gets a bit repetitive, and I don't like how they diss Davey Havock from AFI ("davey destroyed the punk scene"), but the musical quality overall is just awesome. If you're a brainwashed propaganda spouting conservative, then no, this album is not for you. But if you like well done music with a purpose, then pick this up. The best tracks are "you've got to die for the government", "rotten future", and "f*** police brutality".

...AS for the CD, this really is different that their recent releases because this is more in the lines of street punk where as future releases were more in the lines aggressive and not as much gravelly. But all in all, this is an awesome CD.Peace, Love, Unity

Not anti america, anti war,
By Gabe Ronquillo (Hayward, Ca) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Die for the Government (Audio CD)
... This album is charged with political power. the thought that this record should be baught by alqueda is senseless. First of all, anti flag is not anti american. It means anti war, and punks are not about war. If anything, punks are against war, racism, and fasicisim. Punks believe more on Unity, and if people weren't so close minded and opened up, they would notice song like "stars and stripes." the song talks about how we forced Natives out of this country. Open up, and discover what is underneath the mo-hawks, spikes, and tight jeans.
