This has got to be some of the cheesiest music I have ever heard... and I love it! I bought a few of their CDs from elsewhere so unlike a few of the other reviewers, I wanted the English version of a good amount of their songs. CDs 1 and 2 are in German while #3 is in English. Unfortunately, the songs on CD #3 are not on the other CDs in German.

It's still a great collection, especially if you are looking for either:
1. English tracks of Dschinghis Khan
2. Some of the lesser popular songs of theirs.

I wanted both, and am really satisfied. These CDs go really well in a Dschinghis Khan collection since the (#3) English disc's songs are mostly the popular ones, and a lot of other Dschinghis Khan CDs have those anyways.

This is not a best collection of a great German Disco Team.
It has some very well known songs and some not common in original versions (AAD Quality).
The main problem that majority of the greatest hits are not originals, but English versions. If it is important for you to have the originals, you will be disappointed with this particular set. However, it has almost all of the best songs wit only few exceptions.

The members of this band were hand-picked and put together, much like the Monkees were. In fact, their music is sort of a mixture of the Monkees and Abba. Most of these tunes are from the 70's and 80's, but they're still great. My favorites are "Dschinghis Khan" (written for the Grand Prix Eurovision contest) and "Klabautermann" (a sea spook). They may not be 90's-type songs, but virtually every one is a real toe-tapper.

I was stationed in Germany in the 70's and 80's, when Dschingis Khan was at the peak of their performing. This CD brought back old memories, and I could actually feel the ambience of the smokey Gasthauses I used to frequent. The songs were all favorites, except for Verrater, which I never have liked. I have played this CD enough so my wife is sick of hearing it!

I didn't like the fact that several of their top hit were only in English and some, like "Israel" (which was big enough for them to perform it live in Russia of all places) are missing altogether.

It would be nice if "Kontiki" is included in this 36 tracks collection. But I know I can't have everything. Their music is euro dance pop at it's best. Boney M, Army of Lovers & Aqua come to mind when I listen to their music. It's ture that these are mindless dance pop, but they do bring back lot of good old memories for me. Their music is for people who love to dance, have a drink and have a good time. So, let's party.

Damals hatte ich einen Fan-Club und ich muss sagen das die ganze Geschichte ziemlich persönlich war. Nette Leute in der Band. Leider ist Louis Potgieter /der Tänzer) nicht mehr unter uns. Henriette (die links und ihr Mann rechts) haben sich scheiden lassen. Aber dennoch, auch wenn ich jetzt Mike Oldfield (wegen der Musik) lieber höre, werden Erinnerungen an die gute alte Zeit wach.

I used to know only 3 songs of this group : "Rome", "Dschinghis" Khan, and "Moscow". I discovered the other songs of this CD with very big pleasure. The german language is difficult (for me) to listen, so this why I put only 4 stars. The melody of the songs is very easy to follow, and even my son of 5 years old (french educated) use to sing with me when I listened to this album.
The songs are the originals +++.

Granted, many listeners might fail to initially notice Dschinghis Khan due to the fact that while most modern music centers around lyrics in English, DK sticks to German. If you can forgive DK for that indescrepancy (or understand German) you are, however, in for quite an exotic journey. By concept, essentially all DK songs focus on historical personas or unusual geographical spots. DK's crowning as the National Geograpic of pop music is unquestionable. There are a few weak links in the chain, but for most part DK songs attract the musically adventurous mind with a fun journey across time and places!
