The first half of the book describes the background of all the characters and their families, and how the events unfolded, solely based on documented data and testimonials. No wild guesses, no psychological bla-bla-bla, just the bare facts - that's the good part of the book. The second half, though, painstakingly describes the court trial and judgement (which took more than a decade to end) - it is very repetitive, since it describes the same facts already stated on the first half of the book.

My heart sinks everytime my mind comes across anything/everything related to these terrifying and unfortunate true life events. This is the first work I've read from author Don Lasseter, I was NOT disappointed at all; I could not put this book down yet I forcefully did so everynow and then because reading about the horrendous and cowardly acts committed by Leonard Lake and Charles Ng and Cricket just gets me so heated and emotional that I feel I must take a moment of silence for all the victims. I wished there were more photos to depict the physical transformation of both serial killers Lake and Ng because even though looks can be decieving sometimes there are tell tale signs of someone's physical appearance to raise some red flags to danger. In my humble opinion, both Lake and Ng physically show unstable and cruel cold blank expressions. I'm halfway through the book and hooked.

The author wrote with a sense of compassion for the victims and their families and he definitely did his research. I would recommend this book for those interested in good true crime books.
