5.0 out of 5 stars Absolute masterpiece!, March 13, 2000
By
This review is from: Die Unendliche Geschichte (Audio CD)
There are no words to make justice in discribing this absolute materipiece! I remember being a child and how this music made a deep impact in me in seing the movie. Incredible complement to a great and enchanting movie. Now, when I heard it, it really brings to my mind the memories of those days. I spent many years looking for this soundtrack, until one day it appeared in a store in Barcelona, near my hometown. And here in Bozeman, Montana, I found the Giorgio Moroder part of the score (also a great contribution). Now, the score is complete and I can relive those magic days and moments I felt watching The Neverending Story.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Emotional and Inspiring soundtrack, December 16, 1999

I recently got this CD, the soundtrack to the NeverEnding Story, imported from Germany. This has 17 tracks of amazing musical score, and even some extra stuff I didn't hear in the movie. The power of Klaus Doldinger's performance is incredible. From Flight of the Luck Dragon to The Southern Oracle, this soundtrack packs every theme from the movie except The Swamps of Sadness (my favorite theme) and the Ivory Tower. If you're a movie soundtrack fan, and you liked the movie, this is a must get!

5.0 out of 5 stars Enchanted, January 11, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Die Unendliche Geschichte (Audio CD)
The Neverending story was one of the first movies I ever saw in a theatre as a child, and its impression was great. Even though now I can see that the movie's special effects are rather pathetic compared to nowadays standards, it never ceases to work its magic on me. I still get goosebumbs when I see the sinister Gmork, the threat he symbolises is even clearer to me now than back then. I do own the soundtrack on Vinyl, and it has ever been one of my dearest pieces of music. It captures perfectly the moods of the film, and the magic of the idea behind it. As a child I used to listen to the "Flug auf dem Glücksdrachen" (Flight on the Dragon) over and over again. When I raced down steep hills with my bike I imagined to be riding Fuchur. This track is incredibly exhilarating, but the others are equally intense. Doldinger has deserved his place among the great film composers of our age, and must surely not stand back behind Williams or Zimmer. Doldinger hasn't done a great many film scores, but for those interested in him, he has done the music for a german children's TV series called "Nonni and Manni" in the late 80ies. It is not the same calibre as Unendliche Geschichte, but fits the story very well, that is set in turn of the century Iceland. It certainly shows the same emotional intensity in the music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Beautiful and Amazing, September 24, 1999
This review is from: Die Unendliche Geschichte (Audio CD)
Klaus Doldinger's soundtrack to this incredible movie is a masterpiece. When I recently saw the film again for the first time since my childhood, the music made a strong impression on me. As a fan of jazz fusion, underground hip hop, hardcore, drum and bass, and classical, I feel that any homo sapien (including DEL) can appreciate this rare, classic piece of work. paz

5.0 out of 5 stars This is Germany's best filmscore that's not from Zimmer!, September 29, 1998

When talking about German film-music makers, you sometimes easily forget to mention Doldinger, with all the success Hans Zimmer has in the US. Doldinger who is rather known as a Jazz-musician has excelled in film-scoring two times in his life!! The first time when composing the music for "Das Boot"(the Boat), and the 2nd time when he did his best job so far on "Die Unendliche Geschichte"(Neverending Story). The Main Title "Flug auf dem Glücksdrachen" is a fanfare that finds a special place between Star Wars Main title and Jurassic Park`s "Journey to the Island". Also the other cues on the album range from haunting themes over dreamy music(Ivory Tower) to action themes. This Soundtrack has everything an excellent score needs. This is the German Import which is a little more expensive than the US-Release, and Limahl's song "Neverending Story" is missing but it's the complete score (US-release is not!) and it's worth every cent!!!

I have been a fan of the NeverEnding Story for nearly 24 years (I am 28) and I have searching for this cd for a long time. The music quality is superb and the tracks are very recognizable from the movie. A very well spend cd to add to my collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Neverending Music CD, August 18, 2006

This CD is the ultimate CD for The Neverending Story fans who loved the movie, all I would have liked was to find out where to get this one song called The Ivory Tower, the original song played in the film, and I've allways wanted to have some art or posters or other merchandise from the film, if there are any collectibles too, I'd purchase them. I just have no idea where to look sometimes, Especially with The Neverending Story. I would reccomend this cd to anyone who wants as complete of an original compilation from the movie Neverending Story on one CD. It's THE BEST. Keep up the good work!

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Fantastic Film Score Skip the US version, June 20, 2006
By
This review is from: Die Unendliche Geschichte (Audio CD)
I love this film score but didn't want to pay the ridiculous import price of $42.99 for the cd so I went to Itunes and got it for $9.90. I have never heard the US version of this soundtrack but from what I have read here at amazon they obviously made changes for the US release. This German release adds 2 songs for a total of 17 songs over the US release which only has 15 songs. The only other thing the US release has that this German release doesn't have is the Limahl song Neverending story but thats widely available on several different 80's compilations. I think Klaus Doldinger did a wonderful job on this soundtrack 5 stars are you kidding at least a 1,000 for this magical film score. The German title is called Die Unendliche Geschichte.

5.0 out of 5 stars Universal experience, July 10, 2003

Honestly, until today, reading over other reviews of this music, I had no idea that so many people felt the way I do about The Neverending Story. Among one of my earliest memories is going to see it in the theatres with my dad and my brother, and I truly believe that it shaped a part of who I am today. The music is unbelievably beautiful, and the story is timeless. My one complaint is that the Theme of Sadness and the Ivory Tower are left off of this CD, and they are my favorite pieces. However, the new music is still gorgeous (and leaves me wondering why there are, musically, two versions of scenes like the flight to the Ivory Tower). But, I just ordered the other soundtrack, so I'm sure I'll be fine.

If you are a fan of beautiful music, then there is absolutely no way to do without this soundtrack. Whatever Klaus Doldinger is doing, I hope he plans on giving us more of his genius someday.
