This review is from: Die Wehrmacht: Vol.2 (Hardcover)
Essentially a photo album this particular book gives a rare glimpse into the weapons and equipment of the German Soldier during the Second World war.
Lavishly illustrated with colour closeups of the items and black and white pictures taken during wartime, (some of which demonstrate the operation of the equipment), the book covers such things as hand grenades, Mortars, Panzerfausts, Mines, flare guns, and a host of other obscure items issued for the defence or attack of the Wehrmacht. Printed on fine glossy paper for excellent photo reproduction the book at a little over 175 pages is a very fast read. The photos have good captions and are able to explain each particular weapon but do not go into great detail there are other books out there that do. The reader is able to get a good understanding of the item as each photo in the particular section flows on with additional information to the next one on the page. All in all a very interesting book which covers the basics of the weapons.

Awful. Don't Judge a Book By its Cover.,

This review is from: Die Wehrmacht: Vol.2 (Hardcover)
I purchased this book thinking that it would be a comprehensive book about the equipment and accessories of the German Wehrmacht. "Accompanied by detailed text, this brand-new photo-based book covers the equipment, weapons, and accessories used by the German Wehrmacht from 1935 to 1945, with an emphasis on support weapons like mortars and nebelwerfers as well as personal weapons including the hand grenade, panzerfaust, and the heavy demolition remote-controlled Goliath."
Not only is text not detailed in the least, captions simply say: "This is (blank) gun, and it fires five times before it needs reloading." I bought this book as a WW2 enthusiast yet it is printed on nice paper and looks good on the outside, but on the inside, the layout of images looks as if it was done by a five year old kid messing around with an Apple II's word processor. This book is simply abysmal if one would like to learn anything of worth about the Wehrmacht. It's $40 down the drain.

Everything about the purchase went very well. The book was well packaged and arrived in a timely manner. There was only one problem. They sent the wrong book. I ordered Vol.II of a title and they sent Vol.I. What caused the mix up I am not sure. The seller was very quick to correct the problem.

5 stars, because the book really gives the reader a good feel of the weapons it is describing, and the presentation of photograhps is excellent.
The only downside is that the books in the series lack the detail of the development history, deployment or critical assessment of the weapons, but there are other books that deal with this, which in turn do not give as much pictural detail of the look and feel of the weapons. |
