Blair has arrived!,
This review is from: Die Young (Audio CD)
Blair has a knack for writing good songs. You play her debut disc and wait for a clunker, It never comes. Even the last tune is affecting and you have a feeling that its taken from her real life experience. This is an autobiography of her life, It has to be. Like most first efforts culminating a lifes work, This one triumphs. Its an eclectic mix of tunes that laugh, cry, rock and groove. It almost hits you on first listen, But with all great recordings it grows on you and sticks. Her vocals can be described as breathy, sexy, fragile and multi dimentional. Think St.Vincent, Feist with a little Nora Jones tossed in. I had the pleasure of seeing Blair and her tight band, crunch out the tunes from her new album at a lower east side Manhattan club. I left feeling exhilerated with new c.d. in hand. She's currently getting airplay on sirrius radio and other streams and quickly becomoing a D.J favorite. If you want a listen that is heartfelt and sincere you cant go wrong with Blair.

Catchy lyrics and a beautiful voice equals a great album. You will be able to play this album beginning to end without skipping a track. The hooks are great, I'm sure you will be singing the lines of her songs after you hear this album. I hope to hear more from Blair.

A great CD. A talented musician who writes all her own lyrics and music too. Very original, very refreshing.

Die Young is one of the best albums I've heard this year. It's an unassuming masterpiece of power pop and upbeat tunes with surprisingly striking lyrics. Through Blair Gimma's saccharine voice lies the songwriting prowess of someone far beyond her years. Each song breathes with its own sort of life, and there are more than enough standouts on this exceptional debut. Tracks such as "Rampage," "Hearts," "Hello Halo," and "Wolfboy" are some of the more memorable and catchy tunes present, but there's not a weak track on the album. It's unfortunate this album has more or less gone unnoticed though, as it is really quite a find. Do yourself a favour and give it a chance.

Blair's "Die Young" is an utterly fantastic album. Having heard a few of her songs on satellite radio, I decided to spring for the whole album and I was not disappointed. In terms of comparison points, it's hard not to compare her to Feist and her most recent album (The Reminder), but I dare say that I think Blair's album is better. It contains a number of "Indie" friendly tunes such as "Rampage" and "Hello Halo," but what is most striking is the album's consistency...every tune is well worth your time. Both the music and lyrics are very well done, and the best description I can give is that it sounds like an "Indie Rock" version of "Singer-Songwriter". A fantastic album, and I hope a great beginning to a great career for Blair. Get it, you won't be sorry.
