Really Great Moments, December 29, 2000

How refreshing it is to hear an operatic diva sing these songs with such simple sincerity! The children's songs she enjoys with such gusto and glee; the lullabies are so tender and moving (I particularly liked the echo of 'schlafe' in 'Sandmunchen'). Her diction should make many an opera 'star' take note. Wouldn't it be lovely if all children's songs were presented to them by such an artist, and not trotted out in pianola style?

It takes a singer of Lucia Popp's caliber to turn these slight but charming children's songs into little Lieder jewels. Her singing is heavenly in its simplicity and warmth, no prima donna postures here. Do try this very well produced recital, 100% chances you will love it.

This is just about my most treasured CD!
This is the Great Lucia Popp at her best ... IMHO!
Sweet, gentle kindersong ... beautifully sung and played!
I am a big Zither Fan to boot!
