5.0 out of 5 stars An eye opening explaination of excess protein .
When I saw this video it confimed that I had made the right choice in becoming a vegan. This video is a graphic explaination of what we are doing to our bodies and environment by eating excessive animal protein. It also explains how the USDA set up the food pyramid to help the dairy, beef, poultry and pork industries. Plus, an explaination of what and why these...

2.0 out of 5 stars 1 hour video just too brief of an account of the book
I know you can only put so much in a one hour video. Even so, I felt there was, ahem, far too little "meat" to this video. Buy the book, or rather buy his new book, The Food Revolution.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great video version of the book., July 25, 2001

I ordered this video to lend to friends when I can't get them to read a whole book! The book "Diet for a New America" actually has more information than could be put on a one hour or so video, but it contained all the important stuff. It was great seeing John Robbins and other doctors and researchers who have written on these subjects for years.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just what I wanted, May 21, 2003

This video was exactly what I was hoping for. I've been a vegan for the past few years, so none of this was new to me. However the way it was presented was very refreshing. I'm always looking for materials that I can loan to others that will help influence them to a vegan lifestyle. Unfortunately, I can't get many people to read whole books, but I'm sure I can get them to watch a video.
This starts off with reasons why a diet low in animal products benefits your health. It is very straightforward and dispels some common misconceptions. It explains itself clearly with facts and interviews and isn't at all confusing or difficult to follow.
It gradually works its way into the animal aspect. It shows the terrible conditions that they are kept in without showing things that are too graphic. You see what it is like at a dairy farm in California and even hear from the owner of the cattle. You see a newborn calf and learn what its fate will be.
From there it goes into the affect that diet has on the environment. It shows you examples of pollution and you hear from a concerned mother about the contamination of her water supply.
It gives the viewer a lot to think about.
I definitely recommend this video.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thinking about becoming a vegetarian? Start with this video., July 31, 2004

I watched this video in 1997 and haven't consumed meat since. John Robbins provides an excellent introduction to the health, humane and environmental reasons for becoming a vegetarian. Initially I was most persuaded by the humane reasons, but having been a vegetarian for seven years, I am also convinced of the health benefits. John Robbins presents a very gentle and positive introduction to the benefits of a plant-based diet.

Some of the reviewers have argued that people need to eat meat to stay healthy. This is a preposterous assertion which is clearly rebutted by millions of healthy vegetarians, including many world-class athletes. Numerous studies have shown that vegetarians have longer life expectancies than their meat-eating counterparts (try Googling "vegetarian life expectancy").

Another good source of information on the topic eating meat (and why not to) is "Mad Cowboy" by Howard Lyman, a former cattle rancher. For a philosophical treatment of the subject see Peter Singer's classic book "Animal Liberation." Peter Singer is a professor of philosophy at Princeton University.

I highly recommend this video.

I have heard great things about Mr John Robbins and as my life changed I felt the need to know more.
With strokes, diabetes and heart desease in both my husbands family and mine we needed help/information to get on the right track.
This video is a great source of information on what we could do to stay healthy and also the added bonus was information on the animals and planet. You would not think that such a small change in your diet could change not only your health but the planet.
I share this video with friends and family when ever they welcome it.It truly is a way to change and heal your heart.
This is a great video for children 9 years and up I think.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Informative, October 25, 2002

A very informative video which does not shove information you don't want to hear down your throat. I watched this video with my family (we don't exactly see eye to eye in the food department). They watched the entire video, and were quite interested. Not that it changed any lives, but helps people become more aware of their food choices and the impact it has on each individual and on the entire planet.
Good companion with the book.
