5.0 out of 5 stars An absolute must read!
The Diet Trap is the best book I've seen in a long time! 2.0 out of 5 stars Recycled!
Her first book was full of information and basics for weight loss and this is just a longer, recycled version of that book. Her first was much more to the point about how to become healthy, and this one goes on for ever about why all the other diets don't work. If you have her first, don't bother getting this one.

The Diet Trap is the best book I've seen in a long time! Pam Smith designed it for anyone who wants to take charge of their life and make changes to their nutritional and physical lifestyle - but do it the right way. She shows us the harm of cutting corners on fad diets, and instead helps readers incorporate healthy eating and exercise habits.

She also stresses the importance of balancing the emotional, physical, and spiritual aspects; getting good rest; and reducing stress. It's a very common sense approach to living and losing weight!

Every page is packed with clear and easy to read information. The book includes charts, menus, and even recipes to make for an easy read.

If you or someone you know is battling weight or caught up in any of the fad diets - you need to get this book. I highly recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Diet Trap, November 3, 2000
By A Customer
Let's face it. Dieting and the discovering the secret to loosing weight quickly is a top money making proposition in the world today. We all want to look good and be healthy. Many people have found out how to manipulate and fool the body into loosing weight and fat for a period of time. But we also know that our chances of keeping it off are slim to none. In Pam Smith's "The Diet Trap", she explores many of the popular quick methods to reach these goals and why they don't and won't work! As a registered dietician, Pam explains what it takes (eating, exercising, drinking water, rest) for our bodies to release its ability to function properly and rid itself of excess fat storage. It's not a gimmick, it's just the facts. It is not a quick fix, it is a new way of life. Anyone serious enough to face the facts and wants to truly take care of themselves should BUY THIS BOOK. Personally, I have succeeded so far in losing 20 pounds and am on my way to a new way of living after 43 years.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Diet Trap-A God send, November 3, 2000

Pam Chidester (Hattiesburg, MS USA) - See all my reviews
Hi! My name is Pam Chidester, and I am fifty (50) years old. I've been dieting most of my life. I purchased Pamela Smith's book "The Diet Trap" several months ago. It was truly a God-send for me. I know it has helped me and from the mail Pam get's on her website, I know it has helped countless others. I use it nearly everyday as a reference. I have most of Pam's books, and I know that she is trustworthy. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a lasting (not necessarily quick) answer to good health. Thanks and have a great day!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Helped Shed My Pregnancy Pounds!, August 24, 2000
By A Customer
The Diet Trap really helped me focus on the right way to lose weight after the birth of my little girl in January. Instead of going on a crash diet to lose those extra pregnancy pounds, I followed Pam's Smarth Weigh plan. Now I feel better about myself and even have more energy to help care for my new bundle of joy! Thank you Pam!

5.0 out of 5 stars How to lose weight without losing health, focus, or control, August 9, 2001
In The Diet Trap, nutritionist Pamela Smith shows the reader how to lose weight without losing health, focus, energy, or control. She coherently explains why most fad diets are almost guaranteed to fail and the seven top diet myths to avoid and the six weight-loss schemes to pass over. The Diet Trap shows how to unleash the body's natural ability to lose weight and why losing weight depends as much on when you eat as it does what you eat. The Diet Trap is strongly recommended reading for anyone who has gotten caught up on the revolving treadmill of dieting fads and is looking for a safe, sane, and effective method of losing weight and keeping healthy.

Finally...a book that tells the truth. I have been on every diet and am tired of it. The book informs you of the truth behind every diet that I've tried. It gives information that makes sense and works. I am thinking about buying this book for eveyone in my family for Christmas this year. Not just for weight loss, but for better eating habits. Thank you Pam Smith for giving me solid ideas and suggestions for eating healthy and improving my good health!

2.0 out of 5 stars Good, but much of this is now outdated..., October 7, 2007
By
James Jewett (Munroe Falls, Ohio USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: The Diet Trap: Your 7-Week Plan to Lose Weight--Without Losing Yourself! (Paperback)
The author does an excellent job at the beginning of the book. A detailed discussion is provided about diet styles and the risks of each.

A very nice presentation follows about the best ways of calculating true caloric needs. The book also branches out and discusses the need for proper sleep, suggestions for nutritious food, the need for a proper spiritual connection, the benefits of light and how to maintain a healthy weight through good exercise.

At the time of writing, most of this information was probably current. I was surprised though, that the studies referred to in the book were not referenced in a bibliography. In fact, I could not find a bibliography, something that is fairly standard now in a "scientific presentation", anywhere in the book.

A number of key points made by the author have since become outdated. Research is now showing that unsaturated fat intake in "excess" of 30 percent may now be beneficial. The exercise suggestions are well meaning, however somewhat out of date.

Finally, when you get to the section which outlines the secret to success, you may find yourself looking for more. Perhaps this is included in one of the author's other books.

It was interesting to note that most "RD"s still adhere to two basic principles, first that you can get everything you need from a good diet. On this first count, this might be true if our fruits and vegetables came from local organic sources and were freshly picked. The second point often made by RDs is that the "RDA" for vitamins (aka Recommended deficiency allowance), is all we really need, despite research to point out otherwise.

Overall, it is a good effort and worth reading if you are frustrated by diet approaches that have not worked in the past. If you are looking for a book that reflects the latest science however, then you either might want to consider a later addition by this author (who presents things in a very clear and interesting manner) or another book.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Answer, September 30, 2005

Finally a book that tells the truth about all the fad diets there are and will be. This book reveals that all diets are recycled, polished and put back in the main stream, only to leave us sicker and fatter! The answer to true freedom.
