About the Author

Dr. Keith Scott-Mumby received a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MB ChB), which is the British equivalent of the American MD. He then departed into alternative healing interests and studied alternative psychology and nutrition. The big shift came for him with explorations into the phenomenon of food allergy. Now we know that much of the work is really genetic food incompatibility but the startling results are just the same. Scott-Mumby now lives in Palm Springs, CA, where he writes and broadcasts. --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.

I credit this book for helping me cure my Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.

In addition to drinking "Green Smoothies" daily (see, "Green For Life" by Victoria Boutenko), I eliminated sugar and wheat products from my diet and that was the key that helped me make it through a day without the mandatory 2-3 hour nap that I'd been taking for the previous 7 years!

I've read about the Atkins Diet, the Blood Type Diet, Vegetarian Diets, Macrobiotic Diets, All Raw Food Diets, etc. How can any one diet be right for all people?

This book shows you how to find the foods that are nourishing and energizing for YOUR body.

Food allergies (or intolerances) can cause a host of symptoms from weight retention to low energy to headaches to irritability (and more).

I agree with the previous review. This book could change your life if the advice (do an elimination diet to discover the foods that are not good for you and then don't eat those foods) was actually implemented!

This is an excellent book and the concepts are essential for anyone with health problems. All foods have chemicals in then naturally that some people cannot metabolize. These can cause anything from mild to horrifying symptoms. When I was a child I had horrible stomach aches. I went through various medical tortures including an appendectomy with no benefit. Eventually I figured out that this was caused by eating spicy foods like pepper, garlic, onions and other vegetables considered healthy.

As an adult I started having most of the symptoms of multiple sclerosis. This included numb hands, barbershop syndrome and extreme difficulty standing and walking. It was much worse on Saturdays and I wondered if going out to eat on Friday nights was causing my problem. I figured out that the corn oil in the restaurant food was the villain and my symptoms went away. Later I found a book reporting that about 70% of MS is greatly improved by removing improper oils from the diet.

These are just two examples from my life. This book explains the problem and how to find out what foods might be problems for you. Removing the foods that poison you may be the most important health factor. Even more important than removing processed foods, eating healthy foods, exercise, posture, fresh air, sunshine or any of the other very important health principles.

Having this information is vital to people with health problems.

John

I've been reading books on food allergy for years and this book had information I already knew. It had a lot I didn't also. The Dr gives you the information but it doesn't feel like it's being forced on you. It's not a lot of scientific mumbo jumbo, it's intelligent but can be easily read by anyone. It's certainly opened my eyes to a number of things I really needed to know. Am feeling better already and I haven't even finished the book yet.

Good book, lots of excellent information. Unfortunately, the foods that he claims are most often allergens, are not allergens for me.
And the foods most people can eat, I can not. (I had blood work drawn to find out my allergens/sensitivities)

You will learn how to determine yours though, and how to help "clear" you body of them.

This book is definitely for people who are really interested in making the changes required to feel better again. And that takes time, patience, and a willingness to change.

The author is well experienced in dealing with food allergies. He includes details on how to self diagnose these sensitivities. If you are experiencing any chronic illness or even a chronic stuffy nose, I would purchase this book.

I have suffered from chronic insomnia for some time now and it wasn't until I discovered a food intolerance to sugar that I was able to find the root cause.

Since being sugar-free, I have dropped by systolic blood pressure by 20 points in less than 3 days.

I no longer need herbal supplements to help me sleep and if I avoid my food sensitivities, I can get a good night's sleep.

Understanding your personal food sensitivities is critical to your ability to maintaining or achieving vibrant health and this book provides a lot of great information to demonstrate this point as well as actionable advice for how to implement your own diagnosis plan.

Food intolerances are referred to as "Familial Non-Reaginic Food Allergies". This means that they usually don't show up on blood tests because they do not involve typical antibody reactions but, rather, inflammatory processes. Look up "Food Intolerance" on Wikipedia.

The elimination diet and subsequent foot testing process is the best way to effectively uncover hidden food intolerances.

Once you find them and remove them from your diet, you will be glad you did. You won't believe how much better you feel.

i can see why you would be skeptical, Karen.. there's so much junk out there. I first heard him speak on Pat Timpone's online radio show, so had to check out the book because the thought that ordinary, supposedly good food can make people very sick was quite intriguing to me.

The biggest thing that stood out for me was he mentions - it's not the quantity of the food, but what are you having every day... and i thought oh what do i find the hardest to give up that i have every day... so i just thought, toast in the morning, pasta, and milk. HA! what a shock.. i dropped ten pounds of Bloat in a week. All of a sudden i realized I had a keen addiction to starchy things i had been denying, and the milk just in tea/coffee was bloating me as well. Who knew? so have been eating stuff and seeing how i feel. If i bloat - gain a few pounds (he mentions takes about 4 days for substance to get out of your body) - ya, it takes a few days for the bloat to go away.

I am starting to pinpoint things that do that, and I tell ya, it is really surprising what does and what doesn't. With stopping some of these bloaty foods, the cravings stopped right away too - except for the floury pasta stuff, which i suspect is just habit, because everywhere i looked it was like visual hypnosis - every ad on tv, everywhere people eating floury starchy things -eeeek! took me about 6 weeks to really get over all this "being surrounded by starch" mentality.

I gave a copy to my friend and she says oh ya, that means i have to stop eating bla bla bla.. noooo just read it and see what it is for you because everyone is different... everyone is unique..

He also talks about threshold of what a body can take, as well.
