5.0 out of 5 stars Great program and super easy to use
I love this program! I have also used FitDay which is a very good program, but not as good as Diet Power. Diet Power has the Water Minder and Nutrition Quotient which are great! The Diet Power website also has some great help files, but I didn't need very many because the program is pretty self-explanatory.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not for Weight Watcher's but has some good features
I downloaded the trial version because they said on their website that it worked with the Weight Watcher's diet and many other diets. When you fill in your profile, it has a place to mark which diet you are using, but that is about as far as that goes. There is no way to add point values to food, therefore no way to track your points. So it was useless for my particular...

I love this program! I have also used FitDay which is a very good program, but not as good as Diet Power. Diet Power has the Water Minder and Nutrition Quotient which are great! The Diet Power website also has some great help files, but I didn't need very many because the program is pretty self-explanatory.

I have lost almost 40 pounds in 6 months, but I also plan on using this program after I meet my goal so that I can learn what I need to do to maintain my weight and eat and exercise properly. It only takes about a total of 5 minutes a day to enter your food intake and exercise, so I don't think that is too much to ask for having a healthy weight.

5.0 out of 5 stars Diet Power WORKS as long as you do, June 30, 2008
By
Some Guy (Hudson Valley, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: DietPower - Top-Rated Calorie Counter, Nutrient Tracker, Weight Loss and Diet Software (CD-ROM)
I have been using Diet Power on and off for the last 3 years. The first time I used it I dropped 50 pounds in about 6 months but it was NOT EASY. It takes discipline and lots of working out. I am not by nature a disciplined person, so it took some getting used to. Truth be told, I gained it all back because I stopped using Diet Power and got into old habits. I am now working on losing it again, and am down 15 pounds over three weeks.

Diet Power does not do the work for you, and the information you get from it is only as good as the information you provide. It calculates your Metabolic Rate (which is also the number of calories you must consume to maintain your current weight). It then provides you with a calorie budget that is well below your metabolic rate. As long as you log your food faithfully and honestly and stay within your calorie budget YOU WILL LOSE weight. It is based on scientific fact.

I will admit the program takes some getting used to, and if you plan to use it seriously, invest in a food scale, because you need to be very precise. What I like about it is that it doesn't judge and it doesn't restrict any food.

While in a sense you can "Eat anything you want" you do need to stay within your daily calorie budget. You will quickly realize however that while you CAN eat ice cream for example, if you do, you will use up your calorie budget VERY fast. But if you have a sweet tooth and cant live without a scoop of Ice Cream, GO FOR IT! It won't kill you and as long as you stay within your budget, again, YOU WILL LOSE WEIGHT!

Its not a miracle. Its not a gimmick. Diet Power works, but you have to do the heavy lifting.

4.0 out of 5 stars Diet Power WORKS for those who are serious..., March 17, 2009
By
This review is from: DietPower - Top-Rated Calorie Counter, Nutrient Tracker, Weight Loss and Diet Software (CD-ROM)
If you have reached the point where you are serious, where you have determination and conviction, to follow any diet program... then Diet Power is the very best I have found. I find that when I use it regularly as a powerful guide to keep me on track and focused, it works like nothing else.

The nutrients / vitamins / minerals tracking is wonderful. Talk about help to get on and stay on a WELL BALANCED diet! This part of the program alone is a powerful tool. I find that I get sick less often when I use it and pick those foods where I fall short (as well as cutting those foods where I over-do).

The graphs are great for seeing progress (or lack of it). Overall this is a motivating program to help stay on track IF you use it.

I do not input any exercise, I figure any exercises I am doing is "extra credit" (I go in streaks with activities) and it'll show in my resulting weight loss / health without entering them in the program... but to record my exercise and thus have the program allow me more calories for that day (because I burnt some in the exercise, and if recorded in the program, my daily calorie allowance is increased to reflect those I spent in the exercises.. if that makes sense to you lol), well that has not been productive for me, the last thing I need is to think that I can eat more if I spend a 1/2 hour on the treadmill, I like seeing continual progress and not logging my exercises actually helps me to stay motivated. I don't feel down on those days when I don't exercise. I figure why put myself in a situation where I may feel that I have failed in any given day just because I didn't do it "all". I use the program just for diet and nutrition.

The only part that can take more time than I like, is entering in my own recipes so program will record the nutrient values and portions properly for that recipe. I like to try new foods, so I find myself punching in "recipes" a lot, and those creations I make on the fly as I'm cooking... But I do take the time because if I stay true to the program then I know I'm as healthy as I can be and I feel it. Diet Power is a fantastic tool, but remember, books/dvd's/programs don't lose weight, people lose weight... with determination and conviction you will do well and Diet Power can help you greatly :o) Good Luck!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Not for Weight Watcher's but has some good features, May 8, 2008
This review is from: DietPower - Top-Rated Calorie Counter, Nutrient Tracker, Weight Loss and Diet Software (CD-ROM)
I downloaded the trial version because they said on their website that it worked with the Weight Watcher's diet and many other diets. When you fill in your profile, it has a place to mark which diet you are using, but that is about as far as that goes. There is no way to add point values to food, therefore no way to track your points. So it was useless for my particular needs.

However, out of all the programs I have tried, it was the easiest to start using. They have easy to follow videos on their website to help you get started. I also liked that it tells you when you are low or high in a certain nutrient (compared to the RDA). It would have helped track my chronically low magnesium, iron, and vitamin A.

If you want software to track your calorie and nutrient intake and suggest your daily calorie budget, I think this would work really well. It does not, however, do all they suggest.

5.0 out of 5 stars I've lost 32 lbs from it!, December 29, 2009

This is a great program. I've lost 32lbs so far. (I've actually created this system where if I go on a negative bank balance I give someone $1.50 per each day I'm in the negative. This has really motivated me to lose weight). At first I wanted to disable the Nutrition Quotient feature but now I've come to really appreciate it. Although the interface could be easier to use, (it seems like it could use an upgrade) overall, it works, and that's the bottom line. Highly recommended! (I should mention that I have tried about three other weight loss software programs/web sites, and none of them worked as well as this one did).

3.0 out of 5 stars DietPower--Good but with Several Problems, October 30, 2011
This review is from: DietPower - Top-Rated Calorie Counter, Nutrient Tracker, Weight Loss and Diet Software (CD-ROM)
I agree to a certain extent with the positive reviews. However, potential users should be aware of several concerns.

1) In a small percent of cases (something like the Pareto 80/20 rule), an unknown bug causes loss of user added foods. These can be retrieved from a backup, but users should be careful to backup not just every day, but every time when they add information. This can get annoying, since, following Murphy's Law, the one time you forget to backup will be the time you lose data. The owner acknowledges this but says the programmers have not been able to replicate the problem.

2) Do not buy the download version. This is one of those annoying programs that comes with an installation key that is only good for one install. If you pay for the CD you get additional installation options. Otherwise, if you have a downloaded version and get file corruption or something like a hard disk crash, you either have to beg the owner for a free install key or pay something like $6.95 for a new one. This worked for me once and the owner did oblige, but when I had to replace my PC I decided between this approach, the data loss and #3 below, it wasn't worth the trouble.

3) I switched to myfitnesspal.com, which besides being free, has a far more up-to-date database with many more brand name foods in it, saving a lot of time for the user. Besides, while DietPower gives you much more information about vitamins and minerals, for some it may be a case like the 10-year-old girl who wrote a review of a book about penguins, saying, "This book gives me more information about penguins than I care to have."

5.0 out of 5 stars It works, November 6, 2010
This review is from: DietPower - Top-Rated Calorie Counter, Nutrient Tracker, Weight Loss and Diet Software (CD-ROM)
I started using Diet Power March 2009 and have lost over 125 lbs. What I like about DP is that I am not just watching calories, I am watching my nutrition and feeling much more energetic. I love that if you are hungry and want to keep within your calorie allowance, just exercise and then eat those calories that you burned. It does take some time to adjust to weighing foods but it soon becomes part of your daily routine. DP is more efficient and successful than anything else I have used. I am a 60 year old woman so it really does work well! Due to past experiences, I plan to continue using the program when I am in maintenance, I will not go back to who I was!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful tool to assist you on your way, July 20, 2010
By
This review is from: DietPower - Top-Rated Calorie Counter, Nutrient Tracker, Weight Loss and Diet Software (CD-ROM)
I don't believe this is for sale anymore on Amazon (although you can buy from DietPower directly) however I first discovered this software by looking on Amazon. I'm so happy I did!

I started a "diet" a month before I discovered this and was putting in a lot of exercise and moderately watching what I ate but not getting great results. I had lost a couple pounds but nothing near where I should have been for as much hard work as I was putting into exercise and strength training. I went to the DietPower website and downloaded a two week trial version for free. In those two weeks I lost five pounds simply because I had visibility to the calories I was taking in and what I was burning off through exercise.

The software itself is rather complex but it is very simple to use. Logging foods and exercise is very easy and quick. It even helps you track your water intake based on demands from food and exercise. It helps track the nutrition in what you are eating so you have visibility to how much vitamins you intake and where you might be lacking throughout the day.

This is great software. I would highly encourage anyone, even those maintaining weight, to go grab a trial version of this and try it out. This software has shown me that I can eat well and still achieve results.

I have used Diet Power for about 12 years and it has served me well. It's easy to use, it has excellent databases. Its greatest drawback was always portability. Saving data on one computer and moving to another is difficult. I want to be able to sync my records with my smart phone or at least to a website and Diet Power has not grown in that direction; in fact, it hasn't grown at all. I've switched to myfitnesspal.com.

2.0 out of 5 stars One problem after another after another....., September 20, 2011
This review is from: DietPower - Top-Rated Calorie Counter, Nutrient Tracker, Weight Loss and Diet Software (CD-ROM)
A brand new Sony running Windows 7, and I still have endless bugs with this program. Very frustrating to use. The latest is I can't delete the master user, their instructions are either wrong or out of date.

I've been using DietPower for months and I've had it. The database is really limited and they haven't updated it for years and years. Nice little cash cow you got here, but guys, it's time to do a better job for the consumer.
