Book Description

October 15, 2011

The veterinarian rubbed Kelly’s sides for emphasis. “She needs to lose weight. If not ...” Peggy Frezon recognized the list of serious ailments that followed. It was the same one her own doctor had given her. Dieting with My Dog is the honest and heartfelt story of how one overweight woman and her chubby spaniel struggled to get fit and healthy together. Theirs was a comfortable routine. While Frezon’s children were flying the nest, her loyal rescue pup snuggled close. Sneaking M&Ms from her secret stash, she would slip Kelly extra doggy cookies too. Why not? Food is love. But then, Kelly became the motivating factor that led Frezon to face down the physical and emotional reasons for her overeating, and for over-feeding her dog. She learned that embracing change is healthy, and everything is easier with unconditional love. Join Frezon and Kelly on their journey to weight loss with a wag. Dieting with my Dog celebrates our close bonds with our pets in times of both need and triumph. This book is for anyone who has ever loved an animal – through thick and thin. A heart-warming story of one woman and her dog • Inspirational and motivating • A real-life account • A story of family life and love • Heartfelt and humorous look at living with animals • Unconditional love in spades!

5.0 out of 5 stars So wonderful October 20, 2011
By Tina
Format:Paperback
I rarely give 5 stars - but this book truly deserves it. Unlike many, many diet books out there (or diet memoir books) this book was simply a joy to read. While, of course, the main point of the book was the author's struggle with her weight and how she dealt with it, the stories she shares, as well as the absolutely gorgeous and adorable pictures of her dog (and home) are what truly sets this book apart from so many others.

This is not an overly book and it actually reads more like a friend talking to another friend. There are no long and boring involved stories, but rather some cute stories (and some less cute but very touching stories)about a woman who is trying to get her weight (and her life) on track with the help of her adored pet.

I can't say how much I enjoyed reading this book. It made me smile and it made me want to go out and get a dog (which my cat would definitely NOT enjoy).

As I mentioned the pictures are great and I really fell in love with the picture of the house right next to a tranquil lake. I have actually taken that one out of the book and posted next to my desk.

This is a heartwarming story for those of us who struggle with weight, but it is also a heartwarming story for all of us who love our pets.

Loved it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent! November 4, 2011
Format:Paperback
Dieting With My Dog is not another dieting "how-to" book, filled with recipes and meal plans and such. Rather, it's a poignant story of how one woman found the strength to handle life's problems, while helping both herself and her dog lose weight.

Ms. Frezon has a very warm writing style, and is instantly relatable. She's not a 6-ft. tall super-model fretting because her string bikinis are a little tight, but a "regular" person who needs to lose 50 pounds or so. I laughed out loud when she described hiding from the UPS man because of her mismatched pajamas, and felt a little stab of pain when her friend made a humiliating remark about her new blouse. My heart ached for her as she had to watch her children grow up and leave home.

Of course, there is also Kelly, her little dog. Dogs don't control their own food, so mama had to learn that love comes in other forms besides treats and goodies. Adorable Kelly is highlighted throughout this book in beautiful photographs on glossy paper.

This was a very compelling read and is highly recommended!

This is a must read for all folks who have both struggled with diets and who love their dogs as the important members of the family that they are. Peggy Frezon brings the two together in an informative, sensitive and real life way. The book is perfect from cover to cover and the pictures are outstanding. As a "human" mom, I can fully appreciate all the thoughts and concerns the author identifies regarding the tough times we, as parents, deal with when our children break the bonds of dependence and strike out on their own; and, as a "doggie" mom,the book and pictures make you want to reach out and give Kelly a great big hug! For those of us, and we all know who we are, that need the encouragement given by Peggy and Kelly to get out there and lose a few pounds, this book will make you want to get off that couch, grab the leash and your best friend and go for a life changing walk. Thank you, Peggy Frezon, for a wonderful and heartwarming reading experience.
