Made by Dietz, a tried and trusted manufacturer of lanterns for almost 200-year. This is a classic design oil/kerosene lantern. The lantern measures 12-inch tall and made of metal with a wired covered glass globe, fully adjustable cotton wick.

Really good product, very easy to use and quality is very good.

I added fuel carefully, and at a low level, and did not find any noticeable leaking, but I would not trust it if it happened to swing on its handle.

It is nice to look at and I am pleased to have it for the next power outage in my area or for camping whichever comes first.

I bought a least expensive V & O oil lantern I could find in order to use in a presentation about the madman in Friedrich Nietzsche's proclamation that God is Dead. Since the whole point of the story is that it takes place in the daytime, while the madman is carrying a lit lantern, there was no real need to even light the thing, but the looks of a classic oil lantern which may have been used 130 years ago was important. The shipment arrived in good time, but oddly, unlike books, the item was not securely packed, so the glass globe was broken in shipment. I do not fault Amazon or UPS, but the original packaging, which allowed considerable "give", so that a routine jarring could cause damaging impact. I do fault Amazon for not marking the package fragile, but that was not the primary problem. If you are getting the lantern for "show", this is great. I also wanted it as a resource if my electricity went out. I added fuel carefully, and at a low level, and did not find any noticeable leaking, but I would not trust it if it happened to swing on its handle.

In contrast, I bought this Dietz Junior Brass Trim Oil lamp for the same purpose, which was a bit more expensive, but it worked better than the V & O model. No leaks, and a far more sturdy glass globe. Even though it got banged up a bit in my car, it did not break, and it is, I believe, easier to replace the globes than this Dietz model than it is on the V & O model.

I recommend the Dietz over the V & O for durability and larger oil resevoir.

I own 5 different models of Dietz tubular lanterns as well as a variety of oil lamps. Dietz lanterns are an excellent choice for emergency lighting, but there's a lot of misinformation about the correct fuel to use. These lanterns are designed to use kerosene or kerosene - like fuel. Both liquid paraffin and citronella are too viscous and will clog the wick, eventually reducing the efficiency of your burn and causing soot buildup on the globe (as well as polluting your breathing air).
If you are looking for a very good fuel for these lamps that has low odor, check out "Guiding Light Oil High Performance Lamp Oil Fuel"
If you are interested in more information about different Dietz lantern models, which fuels are appropriate, and information about lanterns in general, check out W.T. Kirkman's website. Kirkman also manufactures tubular lanterns that are on par with Dietz.

I bought this model in March 2013 because I'm a fan of Dietz laterns, a sentiment going on 50+ years. But this later model doesn't show the workmanship of days gone by, sad to report. The kerosene leaks (or rather, pours) out of the filler cap, even though I screwed the ill-fitting cap on tightly. Further, it also leaks on one side where the upper supporting arms join the tank, at the welded joint. Things aren't made like they use to be. Nice looking lamp, though, and functional if you don't move it. But isn't swinging the lamp as you walk half the fun of the ol' kerosene latern?

The product was a gift to my husband for camping and he loved it. The shipping was good, with the product well wrapped to prevent damage and shipped rapidly. The lanterns were described accurately and no regrets for purchasing the product. Would reorder without hesitation.

Wish I would have bought a few of these. Nice features, easy to fill, elegant/decorative design, but fully functional and at a good price point. Would recommend to anyone looking for a similar product that should last for many, many years to come.

I purchased this brand because of reviews. However, the first time I used it, which was 2 months after purchase, it leaked fuel out of the bottom seams. Essentially useless.
