A bit soft,
By Jean "amazon buyer" (South Africa) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dieux du Stade: Making of 2005 Calendar (DVD)
These sexy rugby guys have the bods, but they are surprizingly shy infront the cameras - with regards to the 'safe' film camera positions. It must take a lot of guts to bare all infront of about ten crew members, so once there...why not flaunt all. Some of the guys were prepared to let a hand slide from the crotch area, which reveals a bit more than the calender. Mostly they are a shy bunch. The DVD offers a selection for English viewers. There is however no subtitles and barely any dialogue. It would have been interesting to see and hear how the guys experienced the photo shoots. At times the music soundtrack is bit cheesy and irritating. Also there is a lot of repeating in a sequence - to make it appear longer or more seductive perhaps? A great plus would have been to see the final results of the shoots - the Calender!
To sum it up: It is a 3-dimentional version of the calender with cheesy music. Enjoy!

Stunning Stade,

This review is from: Dieux du Stade: Making of 2005 Calendar (DVD)
Beautifully filmed which made one feel you were part of the camera team. Such stunning men, perfect features, toned physiques and happy personalities - you want to hug them all!!
Pity there was no sound track, even if the French could not always be understood it would be nice to put a voice to the man. The black & white sections added a different dimension to the film.

Lots Of Buns, NO Corndogs, & Not Enough Franks!,
By AL "Not A Happy Camper" (Sacramento, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dieux du Stade: Making of 2005 Calendar (DVD)
Yes, all these men are beautiful, but there are (very quick) full frontal shots of perhaps 4 models TOTAL not 48! And it would be a bit of an exaggeration to call them the "Swinging Bratwurst" shots, but they were nice.
95% of the time there's a hand, sock, knee, table, or another stupid model blocking the view. Better titles for these DVDs would be "Viva La Bootie!" or "Rugby Players Know How 2 Handle Zee B@lls". The models often seem uncomfortable with their nudity. Which is understandable. And some of the poses are provocative. This version is nicer than the 2004 DVD and it's in color not B&W. The 2006 version is apparently even more disappointing than either 2004 or 2005. The most charming part of this DVD was the number of times the camera saw these guys sneak-a-peek to "check out the competion". Male insecurity running rampant is so sweet.

Terminally Boring,

Here we see how many ways a naked man can cover his crotch (3, if holding a football-4). And we see them over and over and over again.
I assume the whole series sucks - I've fast-forwarded through two and that's plenty. I'd rather watch the guys play rugby!

A Celebration of the Male Body,
By Kenneth A. Dailey "kadailey" (Cairo, Egypt and Nashville, Tennessee) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Dieux du Stade: Making of 2005 Calendar (DVD)
Just like the 2004 Making Of DVD, this one celebrates, appropriately, the male form. The photography is most excellent and not totally focused on the genital area, which many reviewers seem to desire at the expense of all else. I have to say that the DVD shows a broad range of male forms, from very bulky, to thin, to white, to dark, and all well developed. I appreciate that the photographer is celebrating the classical sense of male beauty, something timeless, instead of the trendy, waifish, bleached, stoned look that pervades much work.
If you liked 2004, you need to have 2005 to complement it. They are a bit different, but both are wonderful celebrations.

After buying the 2004 edition I thought to myself how can the 2005 get any better I mean for the past few months I couldnt get my eyes off the screen every time I watched the 2004 edition. The men in this new 2005 version are gorgeous, the way they're shot, the poses and overall style has made my mouth water after just 5 minutes of watching it. It seems to me like this series keeps on getting better and better every year. I'm planning on buying both as a gift for my friends birthday later this year!
I cannot wait what these beautiful french athletes look like in the 2006 version, I've allready pre-ordered the calendar!

Beautiful models in a bad video,

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Dieux du Stade: Making of 2005 Calendar (DVD)
The models in this video mostly have natural good looks with fitness and masculinity that is truly something to see. A few are so good looking that you can hardly believe it. It appears that only a few are completely comfortable being naked in front of the camera but you are watching a manufactured reality so who knows. They appear solo and in groupings of two to five people.
The production quality is another thing all together. Almost all of the shots appear over-exposed (no pun intended). This washes out the colors and flattens the images. The overall effect makes the material as erotic as the evening news. Digital video can look pretty good with the right post-production but it didn't get the treatment here. The camera work and the transitions between edits is needlessly jumpy. The same snippet of video is often used over and over. Think music video. The music will drive you to the remote. There is really no dialoge so you can just as well provide your own soundtrack. The hardcover photo book might be a better value.

This year's DIEUX is as stunning as the 2004 edition.
The models are photographed in color but somehow it loses something from the beautiful black and white of the previous year. There is no dialogue, only music underneath the footage. I miss the interaction between the models and the photographers. This plays more like MTV. And can you believe someone actually gets paid $ to apply makeup to the butts of these guys, while another strategically places sand on his cheeks. Talk about loving your job!

A fun time for all!,
By Alexis "Alexis" (New York City, NY) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Dieux du Stade: Making of 2005 Calendar (DVD)
I read about (and saw!) Dieux Du Stade in Playgirl magazine this summer. So I decided to pick-up the 2005 DVD. I have really enjoyed it and I have now shown it to most of my friends - a couple of them bought one for themselves too! We laugh and giggle and scream and make "toasts" when our favorite one comes on screen. Such beautiful men! I may have to take a trip to Paris one day just to see the team play!
The DVD is sexy and erotic without being embarrassingly "in your face". After buying the 2005 DVD, I bought the 2004 DVD. This DVD is really great too. I really love how it begins with the music and its filmed in black & white and of course is filled with gorgoeous man after man. I can't wait to see the 2006 DVD!

Really boring,
This review is from: Dieux du Stade: Making of 2005 Calendar (DVD)
I am very disappointed in Dieux du Stade: Making 2005 Calendar. The filming, photos, and the players for Making 2004 Calendar were so much better. They had lots of great energy in contrast to the extremely boring energy in 2005. I'm hesitant to buy Dieus du State: Making 2006 Calendar DVD. I am concerned it might be even more boing than 2005.
