The Difference... Helps You Make A Big Difference!,
By B.R. Anderson (Reston, VA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Difference a Day Makes: 365 Ways to Change Your World in Just 24 Hours (Paperback)
What a refreshing read - both thought provoking and resourceful, In today's "information overload" society, it's nice to have a handy resource to help me accomplish many of my personal volunteer goals without it being so much work. In fact, I'm going to buy copies for all my nieces and nephews as they are all charged with doing community service projects and, in my opinion, need to experience that "giving back," among other things, makes you feel good about yourself!

Ah...the Difference a Book Makes!!! If you are finding yourself disheartened by the current state of world affairs, don't walk, don't run, but FLY to buy this book. "The Difference a Day Makes" absolutely blew me away -- and guided me to land in a place I had not yet known existed. A place where I could feel more helpful and less hopeless as a world citizen. A place where giving back is easy and simple, no matter what my resources look like. A place where it doesn't matter how or where I start to make a difference -- because in this book, all the "getting started" work was already done for me. This illuminating gem reads less like a book of resources and more like inspiring prose; the author's graceful, gentle voice did more than informed me -- it inspired me, to my very core. Thank you to Karen Jones for being a beacon for all of us who are ready to change OUR worlds by changing THE world.

For some, compassionate feelings can overwhelm spare time and energy: readers with such a problem should consider The Difference a Day Makes : 365 Ways to Change Your World in Just 24 Hours a kind of recipe collection for doing good. Turn good intentions into powerful action with a guide which provides vast lists of good things which can be done in a few simple minutes or hours; from providing a resource list for a neighborhood to encouraging workplace and home use of the arts, and assisting an elder who has a pet.

I recently received this wonderful book as a gift, and all I can say is how incredibly amazing it is! While I have always thought of myself as a "nice" person and have donated money to charities, this book made me realize that there are so many more ways to actually make a difference. Through this little book, I have already learned of many easy and different ways to help make the world a better place. I thank the author for bringing something so obvious to the attention of the world!

The difference this book makes!,
This review is from: The Difference a Day Makes: 365 Ways to Change Your World in Just 24 Hours (Paperback)
Finally, a book full of ideas that makes it easy for anyone to help make the world a better place--and not have to spend a lot of time or money to do so. I can open the book to any page and find something that I can do with a click of my mouse, a phone call or just by paying closer attention, that will help someone or something. And that makes me feel great! I gave my sister this book as a gift during the holidays and she sat right down and started to read it even before she opened any other gift...its that good!

Being the Difference...,

If, like me, you've been feeling that sending a check somehow isn't `enough', this is The resource that makes doing `more' easy.
If you're involved with inventing or organizing `service projects', it's a MUST. Definitely the handiest resource for getting your/ their imagination going anyone could possibly wish for. And if you want to start making a difference before you even get the book, add copies for your local library and scout troops to your order. It's that great.

Idealism In Action,

This is a nice book. It shows how simple everyday deeds can have a positive impact upon the world. Too often people who genuinely want to do something good for society honestly don't know how to go about achieving anything. This book gives great suggestions and points would-be philanthropists in the right direction.

"The Difference a Day Makes" is a terrific book. Karen has done a great job in communicating the importance of giving back every day. There were several new ways to give that I learned through reading this book. It is easy to read, understand and implement in your daily life. I would recommend it to anyone that wants to make a difference (and that should be everyone).

Easy Reference Guide for Change & Altruism, but could use more input from Author,

I recently was looking for ways to make a difference and stumbled along this book. This book is pretty much just as stated: 365 Ways to Change Your World in 24 Hours. The book is sectioned off to organize similar opportunities for change. Such as Chapter 1: Nature Nurture - All nature related / Chapter 4: Sharing Wealth: Provide Relief to those living with insufficient means.
The author gives a brief introduction to the book and very and I mean very brief introduction to each chapter. If you have absolutely no idea on what you want to volunteer in or small things you can do to change life for the better for you and others, then this book could greatly help. It basically is just a random assortment of opportunities to get involved in that reads like a giant list. Quite frankly, spending a small bit of time searching opportunities on Google could provide you with many opportunities as well. This is just a starting point. Perhaps I was expecting more than just a giant list of things you can do. The book does not feel cohesive, and although each chapter is sectioned off, there are so many choices that you really have no direction. I would have liked more of the author's input and sort of guidance in creating a sustainable plan for change. Perhaps the best tip was #361: "Choose a Single Cause you would like to support for the year, whether it's youth programs, animal welfare, affordable housing, or anti violence measures. Mark a day for researching this issue online or in your local library." All in all, if you need a quick reference guide to how you can get involved in creating change the world, then this is a good guide. If you already know the direction or cause you want to get involved in, this book would not be for you.

This book contains a lot of information on ways you can make a difference. It is great for parents to consider if they are looking for family activities that teach their children about the world around them. As a single person, this has given me some great ideas of ways I can help others and feel like I am making more of an impact in the world.
