Pat Williams has juggled with many things over the years-career, a family including 19 children(14 adopted), and most recently his physical battle with multiple myeloma- cancer of the blood and bone. The latter would not only test his physical and emotional will, but test his affections- what is truly important in his life from an eternal perspective.

Though facing an uncertain future, I believe Pat Williams has often considered the dignity of man in his relationships he has developed over the years. With over a half century of involvement in leadership, he brings to the table this book of wisdom, along with insights and model accounts of how other prominent and unassuming leaders have displayed exemplary character. In The Difference You Make author Williams reverts to his coaching style and, with full whistle in hand, leads the reader to becoming more intentional and strategic in their influence regardless of the domain in which they find themselves in.

Come on full court with Pat Williams as you learn what true love is in the acts of "mom" Burgher, and how leadership is exemplified in individuals including Tim Tebow, John Wooden, Ray Charles, and Julius Erving to name a few, and, of course, including Pat himself. The individuals mentioned throughout the book committed acts of service with no strings attached and knew the value of servanthood above selfish gain.

Whether you are in a leadership position today or not, the fact remains that no matter what, you will either make a positive or negative influence with the people you deal with on a regular basis. As you learn strategies to influence others the 3 forms of influence- servanthood, mentoring, and empowerment will be looked at, along with seven ways leadership consists of. While you also discover strategies for parenthood and Christian influence, the culmination of information will challenge you to look at your character qualities and ways of doing things and analyze how you measure up.

Though some live intentional lives each day trying to make a positive influence, I dare say many, even well meaning Christians underestimate this importance. Please allow this book to serve as a wake up call to all that our aim standing before the Lord some day is that He will say "well done" to our many acts of selfless service.

I have been reading Pat Williams books now for over 20 yrs. The influence he has had on my life is immeasurable. I have coached basketball for 21 years and i have tried to influence my players in a positive manner and what i have learned from Pat's books are a major part of what i tried to teach. Every chapter of The Difference YOU MAKe is filled with the best advice and knowledge on the subject of influence i have ever read. The chapter on Being a Christian of influence was worth the price of the book alone. The stories and examples from Pat's own life and countless others in every chapter was great.Everyone in life influences someone by their words or actions whether they know it or not. This book is a great road map for making your influence a positive one to last a lifetime.Pat's books have always inspired me and motivated me and more importantly influenced me in every aspect of my life. Im glad to hear Pat is in remission from his cancer and i pray for Him to live a long and healthy life and to continue to write books that has a positive impact on everyone who reads them.GOD BLESS YOU PAT.

I just finished this book and found it to be inspirational. It motivated me to really do a self analysis every morning before I go to work to lead my team.

I didn't really think about how much influence I had, and how it affects others around me until reading this book.

We have an opportunity to influence others positively or negatively, and it is our decision which direction we will take those around us.

Thank you for influencing me!

While the points made in this book are valuable to anyone, you will especially appreciate this book if you like sports. Mr. Williams does a great job sharing examples of how the 'little things' can have such great impact on others, regardless of one's status or position in life.

As I read this book on influence, I laughed, I cried, but most of all I was pushed to do better in my relationships whether at home, with family, at work, you name it! I was inspired all the way through! I was reminded how, no matter who you are, you can be a positive influence even through trials in your life. You can use them as building blocks to encourage others to press on. Pat's research and conversations with others of influence truly drive this book, if you think you have nothing to offer, this is the book for you!

After reading this book, I am going to make a conscious effort to be more of a positive influence on my children, grandchildren, and actually everyone I know or meet. Pat Williams not only tells how he has made a difference in people he's met, but also gives steps for how a "regular" person can go about being a positive influence. This is a wonderful book!
I received this book from bookfun.org to read for my honest opinion.

Pat Williams is an inspirational writer making the Difference You Make an inspirational read while on a long flight home. Yet this book is more than inspirational, it is an invitation and challenge to leverage your influence.

As his style, Pat shares great quotes and stories as he weaves these into his own life journey. Pat gets practical in sharing his own journey while providing opportunity to reflect on my own.

The Difference You Make by Pat Williams
With Jim Denney

Pat Williams has hit it out of the ballpark and slam-dunked it with his book, The Difference You Make. What an eye opening and provocative book. Pat reflects over his life and the people who have influenced him, along with the ones he has influenced.

The entire book is about the impact of influence. Pat touches on how his struggles with multi-myeloma cancer have helped open his eyes to the influences each person has, influences for good or bad, whether the person realizes their influence or not.

As a Dad, Pat had a huge impact on the lives of his nineteen children. In addition, he has influenced as a coach for minor league baseball teams and influences as GM for a major league basketball team.

The book illustrates how we never know how we will influence people, even ourselves sometimes. Pat cites an example on page 131 that richly demonstrates this. He once copied a passage he loved, only to find he was the author of the quote.

Each chapter of the book ends with a series of questions for group discussion or individual reflection, enabling a deeper understanding of the chapter.

He helps us learn and inspires us step by step, in how to become more strategic and intentional within our spheres of influence. He also helps us to use our lives as a mission to impact as many people as is possible with a lasting and positive influence.

Pat ends his book with the sentence:
The difference you make tomorrow begins with the decisions you make today.

The book really brought home how important and significant our lives are as people, Christians, parents, bosses, co-workers or whatever our walk in life may happen to be. We never know how what we say or do will influence someone else.

Even though the book has a sports slant, it carries an effective and interesting message for everyone, male or female, sports nut or not.

This book was provided to me by Revell through The Book Club Network in exchange for an honest review.
