Do you mean Premiere Pro vs Premiere Elements? Premiere Pro is Adobe's flagship video editing program, loaded with many professional features and a steep learning curve. Premiere Elements is the 'hobbyist' version of Premiere, with far fewer capabilities. However that said, I have used Premiere Elements for many years and it meets my needs for short video editing. It has a beginner mode, but more advanced features are available also. I'm sure the Adobe website can give you much information on the differences if you search a bit. Premiere Elements 12 is the latest version of Premiere Elements series (11 was the last one, 10 before that, etc.). Premiere Pro itself is now in the "Creative Suite 6" or can be licensed monthly; various options exist depending upon your status (e.g. teacher/student, etc..).
I have checked Adobe's site and can't get a clear idea of what program I want. I have been using Photoshop CS for years, but I bought a new computer which won't run it and Adobe doesn't support it anymore. I just want to be able to edit my photos and, hopefully, have the use of some layers; and I don't want to spend several hundred dollars to get the new Photoshop. I suspect Elements 12 is all I need, but this page >> http://www.amazon.com/Adobe-Photoshop-Elements-12-Premiere/dp/B00EOQZB4G/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1386691766&sr=8-2&keywords=photoshop+elements+12 shows Elements 12 and Premiere Elements 12 together. I'm wondering what the difference is between just getting Elements 12 and getting the combo. I have no use for video editing. Thanks.
