I just got this cd and I'm not sure of it yet. It took me by surprise. I've been listening to him since the G force recordings and It's a bit strange to listen to the new stuff..But I have to take exception with the guy who wrote the Why review. to say that Gary Moore was not good at blues guitar playing is the dumbest thing I've ever heard written about anyone..Gary...

5.0 out of 5 stars Gary Moore's best cd to date, October 30, 1999

At a time in most musical careers when artists live off past accomplishments, Gary Moore is one of a handful of artists that continues to grow and push the envelope. In short, this CD rocks!!! The first two songs "Go back home" and "Lost in your Love" grab your attention right off the bat. "Go on home" should make a great video, with it's "in your face" attitude. The guitar playing is top notch, as always, but more focused. His remake of the Jimi Hendrix hit "Fire" breaths new life into the classic rocker. "Surrender" is a smokey blues ballad that features a great blues solo in the "Our separate ways" vein. His playing is a little more restrained, more focused in the solo's, and it sounds great. If you've ever liked Gary Moore, you must get this cd. All his influences, from Blues to hard rock to pop, all mesh for a sound that is immediately engaging and highly memorable. Keep up the good work, Gary!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Get back your old band, January 28, 2000

Been a Gary Moore fan since "The End of the World" days back in the early 80's. Have collected every album/cd since and have never been let down until this CD. Gary is still great and the songs will survive if played live and not off of some soundboard or whatever that repetitive annoying snapping sound is on the majority of the songs. Surrender is the only song I care to listen to. This CD sound like a TV show that has a laugh track rather than a live studio audience. I give the 3 stars rating only out of respect for Mr. Moore. But please, get back to live rock and roll or the blues, and drop the disco-ish sound.

5.0 out of 5 stars He is amazing - everytime!, November 7, 1999
By A Customer
I started to listen to GM in 1982. Back then I loved his Hardrock. He came along with Blues - great stuff! The "Dark Days in Paradise" was new and interesting.

And now this! He tried something new again. Very good. Some tracks remind me of the "Dark days in Paradise" and his Blues times.

His version of "Fire" is really good. He didn`t change the title too much - but gave it the "Gary Moore touch". "Fatboy" is a tune you can`t get out of your head! I love the bit of Techno-beat.

No matter what he tries, he`s good at it. He`s going with time, he`s influenced by different styles. He`s developing and growing.

He`s probably one of the greatest guitarplayers ever.

Definitely inovative and fresh, not as dark as the last album which was excellent. His best work since Still Got the Blues. A must for all Gman fans and Guitar lovers.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good work except for the rhythmic section..., January 3, 2002
This record is pretty good, good songs, good guitar playing but I think there's a problem in the mix; the (programmed) drums are too much undermixed to me, and it kills a bit the energy of the whole song, I think a real drummer would have bring more life to the groove (and a real bass player too actually, Gary can play it but bass is a state of mind :))
Despite this, I enjoy listening to this LP, and I'm sure the songs will kick azz on stage.

5.0 out of 5 stars Different Beat~Same Great Gary, May 10, 2001
Have no fear Gary...even though the masses will diss you for taking your music to a new avenue. It takes only a second listen to get used to the sequenced beats & realize that the compositions and guitar playing are primo'. Too bad some folks can't get passed the big beats, because they're missing out on some great guitar work and tunes. The Blues are still there with some Rock,R&B and Jazz to boot. Those who are locked into straight blues will be disappointed. But, the lucky few who find that the blues can be recycled a bit much and get stagnant like in "Blues for Greeny", will be treated to a great disc. If you can't get enough of Gary's guitar playing- Different Beat, gives his playing more air time. "Surrender" is a beauty with some tasty guitar work that keeps teasing you on for over 5 plus minutes. If the blues is what you want...still there in "Go on Home, Worry no More, Fire, & House Full of Blues. Great Endeavor Gary...

I can agree with the review "Why, Gary?" in some respects, as on first play my reaction was "what is this!". But I have to say that on repeated listening it just gets better! Full marks to Gary for moving with the times.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wicked Grooves, February 21, 2000
I have been a Gary Moore fan since his hard rock/ metal days. Run for Cover I think was my first album and I love his guitar playing. For a while I thought he was going to be a bluesman for the rest of his life, don't get me wrong, I like the blues and all but you can have too much of a good thing. The new album is great, and I love the way he has fused blues/big beat/drum and bass. The track Fatboy recalls the Big Beat king himself, Fatboy Slim, and Cant Get Enough is a wicked drum and bass tune. As always the songs are great, poor Gary, he always seems to be having women trouble in his songs. The standout track for me is Surrender, a laid back smokey blues ballad with a trip hop vibe. Gary is a master of the ballad and this tune follows the tradition of excellence established with his older tracks, Parisienne Walkways, Empty Rooms and Still Got the Blues. If you like Gary Moore, buy this!

The beat may be more techno now,but the exceptional talents of this legendary musician are the same.Great songs, feeling, quality vocals and,of course, top notch guitar, all demonstrate that Gary can shine even in an electronica environment.Great new album.
