A Nice Surprise,

I can't exactly explain why, but this is one of my favorite CDs. Deadeye Dick don't reinvent music and it didn't change my life but when I play the CD I sing along to every one of the songs. And the style changes between each song which can sometimes be jarring but they keep everything flowing smoothly from beginning to end and I like their sly, cynical sense of humor.

Like Eve 6? Like Vertical Horizon? Like Third Eye Blind?
I thought so, which is why you're at this page. If you heard NEW AGE GIRL from the Dumb and Dumber soundtrack and thought this would be a GREAT album with alot of similiar songs, you were wrong. There are no similar songs and that is the best Track on the CD. Regardless, this Album is good. Listenable few tracks like Perfect Family, Your Love is Killing me, and Marguerite, but after that the album goes flat untill Sentimental Crap which is a great song. But then flat again, boring and stale. About Five Songs out of 11 are good. Sure, 5 songs is alot, but that means there's 6 songs that arent. more bad then good. Which is why this gets a 3. Listen the Samples, if you like it, buy it. It's so ridiculously cheap.

strangely addictive,

i have to agree with one of the other reviewers - i can't explain it, but i love this cd. i have been listening to it since it came out. it's got a fun, pop sound with surprisingly interesting, thoughtful but offbeat, offhand lyrics. and like one of the other reviewers, i like most of the other songs better than "new age girl". and i'm always singing along.

Better than expected, and worth a listen,

"New Age Girl" really is the best song on this album, but I enjoy listening to the whole thing, which is rare. A decent band that made decent music, now defunct and now this album is out of print...sad, really. If you can get a copy, it's really worth trying out.

One of the greatest hidden gems in music,

I have had this CD since the single New Age Girl came out, thanks to the movie Dumb and Dumber. At the time this CD was not sold in the US at all, but was carried in limited supply in Canada.
Having had connections at local radio stations I was lucky enough to get a promo copy for my birthday. After all these years it still has not left my music collection. Having gone from CD player to disc changer to computer to iPod, this CD is always there. As for all of that, this CD is not for everybody. While I enjoy the whole Cd immensely there are many people out there that will find it drab, dull, and falling apart at parts. If you like your rock toned down and in a Crowded House like tone, then this CD is for you.

When this album came out, I listened to it until it broke in my tape deck. Way back in 1994. I have been looking in every used CD store I ever go into for Deadeye Dick. Finally found it here, definitely recommend. Check out Whirl as well, also a quality production. I love every song on this CD, tape, whichever medium you chose. Gotta have it, love it and want more.

DeadEye Dick, an overlooked pearl!,

I always have this CD in my case, ready to be listened to. Many people who bought this CD for "New Age Girl" may get a shock when they realize the rest of the CD is MUCH better than it's first track. Warm and fun, heartfelt and sincere... this is intelligent rock. The band's name obviously came from the Kurt Vonnegut novel of the same name. I really envy the New Orleans area that gets to claim DeadEye Dick as a local hit... and I join the ranks as a fan. There's not too much anger or aggression in their songs, but beautiful lyrics and true-to-heart situations. It's mostly acoustic rock, with some catchy pop-appeal. The vocals are amazing, for the lead singer has a soulful voice, and obviously cares about his songs (which he wrote...all of them, and it's nice to see that some people still write their own). This disc is absolutely worth another look. The band includes liner notes, with full lyrics (something I love for bands to do). You can even see the song "Marguerite" (a dear, sweet...but not depressing song about losing a friend) was dedicated to the memory of M. Huertin (obviously "Marguerite"). The title track isn't my favorite, but actually "Sentimental Crap" (the B-Side for the "New Age Girl" single). Molly is also extremely nice for anyone...especially if you can relate. Please, don't overlook this CD again!

Excellent music. Both lyrics and music are close to the heart, and very personal. Well played. Sad that it seems these guys aren't recording any more.

This album is great. I have always liked "New Age Girl" and "Sentamental Crap", but nearly all of the songs on this CD are fantastic. Super sharp wit, dark humor, and upbeat pop styling make this one a must have.
