5.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievable sound
This is one of the best albums I've heard in a long while. I received a copy from a friend soon after it came out and I've been playing it non-stop since. The guitar riffs are catchy, the instrumentation is technical, the voices are strong and the lyrics are deep. It's so refreshing to listen to after being inundated with hip-hop and drug-fueled rock that's been passed...

3.0 out of 5 stars Beach Boys Meet The 21st Century
Don't get me wrong. This CD has some real bright spots on it. Unfortunately, it also has some very forgetable spots as well. This CD could easily have been trimmed down to 10 songs. That is disappointing because 3 of the best songs on the CD are repeats from The Summer EP, The Song In My Head, Middle Of The Night, The Only Song. The bad part of the length of this CD is...

This is one of the best albums I've heard in a long while. I received a copy from a friend soon after it came out and I've been playing it non-stop since. The guitar riffs are catchy, the instrumentation is technical, the voices are strong and the lyrics are deep. It's so refreshing to listen to after being inundated with hip-hop and drug-fueled rock that's been passed off as music the last few years. Seriously, top-to-bottom and side-to-side this album is incredibly strong. I'm expecting big things for the Sherwood guys in 2007.

5.0 out of 5 stars I haven't been this addicted since I started crack., April 30, 2007
This review is from: A Different Light (Audio CD)
Okay, so I've never tried crack, but I hear it's pretty addictive. As is this suberb CD by Sherwood. To anyone who has never heard them, take Relient K and Mae, mash them together, and you have Sherwoord. Of course, you could throw in some Hellogoodbye and Daphne Loves Derby for good measure, and that's good eatin'!
Alright, I guess it needs to be a bit less vague than that. You've got four guys playing guitar, bass, drums, and keyboard. It's a set up we've seen before, but few pull it off as well as this band. The synth reminds me of a less mentally unsable Motion City Soundtrack. The lyrical content is your typical "Boy loves girl, girl does not recipricate." The amazing thing is that while they write lyrics that sound like an old Dashboard Confessional album, the delivery ends up being very much on the hopeful side.
For those who didn't download their Summer Ep for free back in June or May of last year, the only song that was not added to this album was "This Airplane is a Ribbon." That made me a bit sad because that is by far my favorite Sherwood song. "The Only Song" sounds the same to me. "Middle of the Night," "The Simple Life," and "I'm Asking Her to Stay" all sound a wee-bit different. Good different.
If I could pick out a list of stand out tracks I would. But they blend so easily that it's hard to say which ones are the best. I will say that my favorites are "Middle of the Night," "For the Longest Time," and "Alley Cat." The only song I dislike on this album is "The Best in Me," and dislike sounds like too strong of a word. There's nothing really wrong with it, but it irks me. I can't explain that. Anyway, I'd have to say that this album should put Sherwood on the map. Is it their Everglow? Not quite. Maybe next record. But it's certainly one of my favorite of 2007.

I saw these guys at their last 2007 tour date with Relient K & Mae and can't get them out of my mind. Ok, the headliner Relient K was the best in show but Sherwood wasn't far behind. I can't get the wacky spastic keyboard player out of my mind!
After giving the album a second listen afterwards I was hooked.

I first heard Sherwood while they were on tour with Relient K and Mae.. I really liked their style of music, and they are a great band, and quite personable with fans it seems :)

This is a great CD, and I find myself singing along with every song on this album! I highly recommend this CD, all of the songs on it are great, and the musical style is unique and has a fun feel to it :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply superb music, April 23, 2007

This album presents plenty of outstanding songs filled with a sense of Summer and an overall happy feeling. If you like Hellogoodbye, FM Static, Cartel, Plain White T's, well, you will love this band. They are a mix of all those bands, with their own style put in aswell. The lyrics are intricate and meaningful, the guitars are very upbeat and make it real easy to rock out to. These songs are great to dance to and make you want to get off your feet and start to dance and sing along. The combination of guitar, bass, and keyboard make a nice sound, unlike anything I have heard from a band before. Songs like "Song In My Head" and "Middle Of The Night" are sure to be on the top of your music chart. The band even throws in some remakes of a few older songs from preivous CDs which give you the sense of style from their older creations.

To put it simply, the music has a positive, upbeat sound and feel to it, unique and great to rock out to and sing along. It's the kind of music that you can feel in your body when you listen to it, giving you goosebumps it is so good. 5 out of 5. I'd give it a 6 if i could.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable Album, nice lyrics, July 14, 2007
This review is from: A Different Light (Audio CD)
A good album that I enjoyed, with great lyrics. The most memorable song on the album being "song in my head" Comparable to Relient K, but less variety. However, Sherwood has figured out their style, and they are good at it, which tends to make up for the repitition of sound in most of the tracks. Can drag in the middle a bit, but all in all a great album. If you have an appreciation for the thoughtful lyrics and well constructed musical style of Relient K and others, you will probably enjoy Sherwood.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sherwood harkens back to the days were singer-songwriters ruled, December 11, 2007
This review is from: A Different Light (Audio CD)
The Good
Soft piano keys ring in the melodic masterpiece that is "Song in my Head." The track builds with emotion as each new instrument is added, eventually transforming the song into quite the rocker. A numbing keyboard run accents the rhythmic jam "The Best in Me." Nate Henry is heartfelt and honest in his delivery. A catchy little guitar strumming patter locks you in for the ride on "For the Longest Time." The lyrics delves into what a lot of us feel when a lost love moves on. "Alley Cat" is all about multi-part vocal harmonies. "Never Ready to Leave" is another melodic trade off between vocalist Nate Henry and Dan Koch. Both singers blend their tones beautifully. "The Only Song" delivers clever lyrics and an up-beat tempo despite the fact it's sad in nature. A repetitive riff runs rampant on "Alive."

The Bad
Nada

The Verdict
Not only does Sherwood deliver with catchy hooks and tuneful music, but they even inflict thought-provoking and relatable lyrics with sharp vocal melodies. Sherwood harkens back to the days were singer-songwriters ruled the music scene and it's good to hear they're keeping the sound intact. The 1st album to make my best of 2007 list for sure.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing....Even Better Live, October 28, 2007
This review is from: A Different Light (Audio CD)
Their songs are upbeat and their harmonies are awesome. Their key boardist is one of the most intense guys I've seen and they're some of the nicest guys on the planet. Yes there music is poppy, but their lyrics are awesome and they are a truely talented group of guys.

Go see them live, you will never regret. They're that awesome. I was an instant fan when I saw them on the Sleeping Giants Tour. Look at them with an open mind and you'll love the music.
