5.0 out of 5 stars A Worthy Purchase
Glenn Hughes is one of the best rock singers of his time. This cd covers his career pretty well.If you are a Glenn Hughes fan you will enjoy this cd.Even though the Trapeze and Deep Purple material is not the original recordings but is mostly live solo recordings it is still a very worthwhile purchase.Excellent musicians always accompany Mr.Hughes in all of his endeavours...

3.0 out of 5 stars Great Hughes Sampler!
If you're reading this, you must already know that yes this is Glenn Hughes of Deep Purple Mach III and IV fame, as well as former front man for Trapeze. I was looking for a representative sample from his solo career to decide if there were other disks I wanted to pick up of his, and I think I came to the right place.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great Hughes Sampler!, September 15, 2005

If you're reading this, you must already know that yes this is Glenn Hughes of Deep Purple Mach III and IV fame, as well as former front man for Trapeze. I was looking for a representative sample from his solo career to decide if there were other disks I wanted to pick up of his, and I think I came to the right place.

Not sure if it's a blessing or a curse, but 6 of this 2 CD set's 20 tracks are remakes (mostly solo live in concert) of DP tunes (Burn, Highball Shooter, You Keep On Moving, Gettin' Tighter, Lady Double Dealer, and Strombringer), so you should be familar with some of the material already. Based on the liner notes, looks like all material on these disks come from 7 CDs: Burning Japan Live, Feel, Addiction, The Way It Is, Return of the Crystal Karma, Live in South America, and Building the Machine.

I would've liked to have seen a couple Trapeze tunes (or remakes thereof) on this, but it does have a live version of one of the songs he originally recorded with Tony Iommi/Black Sabbath (From Now On), and material originally recorded with Pat Thrall as well as Marc Bonilla, so this works pretty good as a sampler/introductory package to the music of Hughes.

I can't bring myself to give any 'Greatest Hits' package 5 stars, and let's face it this is not a classic. I'd have given it 3 1/2 stars if the rating system would've let me. Now if only Glenn would've put on a live version of 'Burn' showing he can sing without screaming, I would give it a 4. If you liked Dan Hartman's sampler CD 'Keep the Fire Burnin'' you should like this (very similar concept).

(Excuse me for my bad English) One of my best albums quite simply. Ok: it's a "best of". But it is also the best point entrance to discover Glenn Huges. That the excellent one on this double! Then, pass for example on "Burning Japan Live" or "DP: California Jam".
Quite simply: one very very great artist.
(Currently see HTP and HTP-2 with Joe Lynn Turner).
