Very handy and powerfull. All differential diagnoses in a very small form factor. Contains a list of over 800 symptoms, abnormal findings and physical signs. Even all relevant laboratory tests and their differential diagnoses are included. For students, residents, nurses and all other healthcare professionals. I use this book several times a day and really can recommend it.

It really is an amazing book. The differential diagnoses are very easy to interpet, and there is a wealth of information about all the common diseases seen in a hospital setting. As already mentioned, all relevant labs and their DD are included as well. As an Internal Medicine resident, I would give it 2 thumbs up. An essential pocket book to carry around.

I bought four new books on differential diagnosis about two months ago. I've been practising medicine for 17 years, and recently started teaching residents. Eager to be a good teacher, it was a great excuse to spend $$$$$$ on my favorite thing- books. This book was the least expensive and the most useful of the bunch, and it has won the spot in my pocket. The only drawback is that it really does not distinguish between horses and zebras. That doesn't matter much after 17 years - I recognize the horses without much effort, it is the zebras I don't want to miss!

As a doctor i would say the book is excellent. Even though this is not a teaching book, it gives you a complet overview of all relevant DD. The book does not help you to differ, which DD are the most relevant and which are not. But if there is a question, look inside, think and you will not miss any important DD. So this is good for students as well. That much information in such a small book: 5 stars!

I had some expectations on this one because of the reviews. It was way better than I expected and I will use for a long time.

I had forgotten how helpful this little pocketbook could be. Had one during training and it passed into oblivion.
Now purchased another. Have picked it up countless times in the last month just for the pleasure of seeing how many of these lists I now recall (or don't) and can improve. But more seriously, on late nights its been a great sleep-saver. You know...the kind of night after too many puzzles in a row and now another resistant problem, a frustrating anemia, a fever of unknown origin, potentially rare hyperkalemia or hypokalemia problem, a less than usual acid-base disturbance etc. I don't want to overlook something, but I also just can't do another cup of coffee just in order to support more searches through UptoDate or MdConsult. This has been a rapid access and very useful resource. Worth every penny. I plan to keep a few lying around. It does not rank the differentials by frequency of occurrence etc. It does not have a feature for combining 2 or more symptoms. It does not attempt to offer treatment options. But then that's not usually what I am needing at the moment anyway -- just a great straight forward list for brainstorming and to help make sure I've considered most of the remaining options. At times its actually fun to peruse. Rather than brushing past a patient who asks: what is making me flush, have my hair fall out?, have changes starting in my fingernails?, turning my tongue red, black, swollen or painful? -- here's a user-friendly place to sifting through the deep mysteries of life.

Sailer (This Book) >> Ferri's Differential Diagnosis.,

This review is from: Differential Diagnosis Pocket: (Pocket (Borm Bruckmeier Publishing)) (Paperback)
The one thing I wished I knew when I was a medical student is that the differential diagnosis is the absolute heart of medicine. Sounds obvious now.
This book is MUCH better than Ferri's Differential Diagnosis. The lists for almost all the differentials are much longer. Even though they are much longer, they are still easier to navigate because they are divided into practicable subheadings. Sailer is also physically smaller and the cover is white so you can write your name on it. (The book misses a differential for halitosis: eating one's own stools. This is a very important differential in some populations. Addressing the issue can make a marvelous difference to all involved.)

This book is so helpful! It amazed me at the size and the amount of information that was put into the book. After using it for over a month, I will continue to carry it with me. It helps distinguish the big bads and also gives way to the everyday diagnosis for patient care. An exception to little books, with huge amounts of info~!
