5.0 out of 5 stars Every Teacher of Reading SHOULD have THIS book!
This is THE book to buy. The format is explicit and prescriptive. You know the problem? Well, here's the solution...here is what you need to do. It's that simple. This is the best book on the market TODAY that helps you know how to teach those students who are dependent, struggling readers. A must buy for any teacher, not just a K-3 teacher. High school teachers could...

1.0 out of 5 stars There are MUCH better books on the market!
I bought this book when I was learning about differentiation strategies. Granted it IS an easy read. But it doesn't enhance anyone's knowledge about true differentiation, or RTI. They do NOTHING to address deeper issues of differentiation such as multilevel strategies within each reading strand. Their so called "scripts" are DULL in the extreme and anyone who's ever...

This book is a fabulous resource. It is user friendly. It offers many useful suggestions at a basic level. It is my "pleasure" reading at the end of long work day. I am using it to help me coach the teachers I work with. Love it...

4.0 out of 5 stars College text, September 18, 2008
This review is from: Differentiated Reading Instruction: Strategies for the Primary Grades (Paperback)
I purchased this as the required text for a Master's level course in differentiated instruction. A good balance of the theory and practice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book to get centers/stations started, August 13, 2010
This review is from: Differentiated Reading Instruction: Strategies for the Primary Grades (Paperback)
This is a very easy read, with such great ideas to get differentiated instruction started. Differentiated instruction is already very difficult, but with the ideas and strategies in this book, it makes it that much easier. This is definately a book that you should read if you want to get started!

This review is from: Differentiated Reading Instruction: Strategies for the Primary Grades (Paperback)
I bought this book when I was learning about differentiation strategies. Granted it IS an easy read. But it doesn't enhance anyone's knowledge about true differentiation, or RTI. They do NOTHING to address deeper issues of differentiation such as multilevel strategies within each reading strand. Their so called "scripts" are DULL in the extreme and anyone who's ever taught reading doesn't benefit from them. I read the entire book and didn't learn anything that I didn't either already know or find better explained in another workshop I had attended or another book I read. What I find absolutely amazing is that this book has the name differentiation in it all. It's not differentiation. It's simple straightforward teaching strategies and if you have any teaching experience at all then this book isn't going to do much do improve your differentiation practice. Teaching Phonics, Phonemic Awareness, Fluency, Comprehension is NOT differentiating reading instruction. That IS reading instruction. If you are really interested in differentiation buy another book. I'm not trying to insult any of the reviewers who gave this book such positive reviews, but really, there are MUCH better, MUCH more thorough, MUCH more helpful books about differentiation on the market. There are also better books on reading instruction on the market. Try something by Kathy Collins, Fountas & Pinnell, Patricia Cunningham . . . You'll be much happier in the long run.
