Harness the 'power of two': Differentiated instruction plus technology equals a better learning environment for diverse students.

Differentiating Instruction with Technology in K-5 Classrooms helps today's educators understand how to immediately use technology as a tool to differentiate instruction. The authors provide a variety of practical instructional strategies to accommodate a broad range of learning styles, abilities, and curriculum content. Creative, ready-to-use lessons mapped to curriculum content standards, activities, and templates allow teachers to kick-start their use of technology in differentiating instruction.

Learn how to use technology to differentiate by student interest, readiness, ability, learning profile, content, process, and product. A chapter dedicated to applying technology to specific subjects--art, music, physical education, and foreign language--rounds out the instruction-specific content. The final two chapters focus on using technology to assess student learning and manage the differentiated classroom.

-technology integration
-teacher training

5.0 out of 5 stars Differentiation in Technology, November 30, 2007
By
Sandra (Detroit, MI) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Differentiating Instruction with Technology in K-5 Classrooms (Paperback)
Differentiating Instruction with Technology in K-5 Classrooms is an inclusive resource that summarizes best practice principles. It begins with an overview of differentiated instruction, which is helpful to anyone who is striving to address diverse student needs. A table in the first chapter lists nine categories of instructional strategies that are most likely to boost student achievement and technology product suggestions are included for each. Differentiation by interest, readiness, learning profile, content, process, and product are included, with special focus upon multiple intelligences, student engagement strategies, R.A.F.T., I-Searches, WebQuests, and portfolios. The basics are also included, such as pre-assessment, classroom management strategies, rubrics, and an outstanding learning contract. There are over one hundred links to peruse, offering the reader countless ideas for integrating technology into any educational program. It is obvious that Grace B. Smith and Stephanie Throne have had ongoing contact with groups of students and first hand knowledge of what really works in classrooms. This book is highly recommended for anyone who wishes to integrate current, best practice principles into their repertoire of technology instructional strategies and to engage students in higher levels of learning and achievement.
