Considering the dearth of business literature available today, "The Difficult Hire" adds precious little to the mix. Indeed, it attempts to represent its findings as indicative of both scholarship and real world experience, but anyone who has worked in recruiting for a significant length of time would be hard-pressed to apply its teachings effectively. This book is a quick, easy and concise read.

I was so impressed with the quality that we bought a copy for everyone in our Recruiting department and it is the first book we give to those new to recruiting.

The book explains the must do's for recruiting in terms of attitude that a recruiter should have in todays job market that makes good applicants so hard to hire.

It also goes over Equal Opportunity guidelines and legal issues, that while many may gripe are USA only legal requirements but such things in the world stage are becoming mandatory practice for treating people from all nations as equal.

This book tells you how to recruit professionally.

Considering the dearth of business literature available today, "The Difficult Hire" adds precious little to the mix. Indeed, it attempts to represent its findings as indicative of both scholarship and real world experience, but anyone who has worked in recruiting for a significant length of time would be hard-pressed to apply its teachings effectively. I was surprised, therefore, to see a human resources professional had co-authored the book. While it is important to create an impressive "perception" of a prospective employer to a candidate, it is more valuable to develop recruiting strategies based on certain realities of the marketplace, including demographics, unemployment trends, and the true perception on the company based upon the intelligent, resourceful candidate's own research.

This book struck me as an attempt to act as sort of "field guide" for the internal recruiter. It would seem, however, to promote unnecessarily arcane business practices that would have little useful function in the real world.

This is a fine book on many aspects of recruiting and belongs on your bookshelf if you recruit for a living. The mechanical aspects are well covered step by step. Good for new and experienced recruiters, especially internal recruiters.
