This text, intended to be of use to researcher and clinicians alike, provides current information on the principles and applications of molecular diffusion and perfusion nuclear magnetic resonance imaging. This technology is important clinically for the emergency management of stroke patients and monitoring of laser surgery. The text features: basic principles of diffusion measurements with MRI and various principles which have been proposed to produce images of diffusion; technical considerations; overview of the current and potential clinical application; difficulties encountered when implementing diffusion imaging and the significance of diffusion measurements in biological tissues; physical principles and fields of applications such as tracer and blood pool agent based approaches; and methods specific to MRI where flowing blood is magnetically labelled.

This review is from: Diffusion and Perfusion Magnetic Resonance Imaging: Applications to Functional Mri (Hardcover)
This unfortunately out-of-print book is an indispensable work for anybody interested in modern neuroimaging. le Bihan not only content with developing diffusion imaging also edited (back in 1995) this definitive work on the matter. Without being massive it is quite exhaustive and he manages to cover most of what one would like to know about diffusion and perfusion imaging: indeed almost everything from pulse design to clinical applications is covered by the stellar set of contributors. It is also interesting to see that almost all chapters remain of interest and it is with mdesty that one has to see that many "new" applications of diffusion imaging published today were already covered in depth by this book. If you can find it, buy it. We also hope that Dr Le Bihan will get around to eventually putting out another edition of this masterpiece.
