Product Description

From the Manufacturer

The arcade classic returns with a dual-screen twist and all new gameplay. Monsters are terrorizing the islands! Classic enemies Pooka and Fygar plus a host of new bosses are causing trouble and it's up to Dig Dug and his crew to sink the islands and drive these critters into the sea.

Players explore 3-D environments to pinpoint fault lines that will trap the boss monsters, then dig on the bottom screen to connect fault lines until the islands break apart, but timing is critical. Trapping the monsters behind fault lines on the upper screen requires skill and timing--players may trap themselves if they don't plan!

Dig ahead in single player or go head-to-head wirelessly with a friend, Dig Dug Digging Strike offers everyone non-stop action on the go!

Features:

  • Variety of fun stages. Clear 15 stages and over 80 areas. Sink the enemy bosses to advance to the next area.
  • Cool weapons. Stop enemies or guide them through the tunnels with unique weapons and items. Utilize the elements to your advantage but watch out! Rolling rocks, quicksand, and flowing lava don't distinguish friend or foe!
  • Item collection. Find and acquire items such as fossil fragments to unlock levels and special items to help you clear the most challenging levels.
  • All "new" mini-games. Play parodies of classic Namco Games with "Horivalou" and "Hori X" to help Dig Dug break apart the islands.

3.0 out of 5 stars Why must i watch the story intro's everytime......, July 2, 2006
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Dig Dug Digging Strike (Video Game)
The game it's self is more or less the same as the dig dug one with an overview map that's kinda like the dig dug II on the NES. But, the twist is combining both the Dig Dug with that goofy Dig Dug II overview map that kinda involved destroying the islands to defeat the pugs and whatever the little dragon guys name was.... Not a bad idea and it's actually fun if you liked those two versions of Dig Dug. But, some of the bonus weapons are pointless and overall have no use really in this game. And, sadly for whatever reason one is forced to watch the story dialoge over and over and over and over... Really... Even the story dialoge before you get to the title screen!!! Why!!! First time it's like sure! But, over and over no. Not cool what so ever!! Plus, the story is very lame even for children who will find the story bland and meaningless. Think you can mash some buttens and skip it? Nope!!! The game and concept of mashing Dig Dug and Dig Dug II is a good idea and is rather fun. Concept of forced story over and over and useless bonus weapons lame. So, this game can rather be a push for fans of Dig Dug if you're a member of one of those online game rentals you may wish to try first before plunging in on this game....

3.0 out of 5 stars It's a great game, I just don't like it. ;), June 21, 2010
= Fun:2.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Dig Dug Digging Strike (Video Game)
When reading reviews for any product, it's always important to consider the point of view of the author and how that may affect their assessment of the product. I figure the same is true when writing reviews, so I wanted to make sure that people knew my reasons for not liking the game.

I am 39 years old, and only bought a Nintendo DS about a month ago. I knew from the time I first saw one that most of the software was not going to be aimed at people of my age or gaming habits. Still, there were a few titles that caught my interest. Most of these were updates of classic arcade titles, or new compilations of arcade classics that either offered different titles than previous ones for the GameBoy Advance or just better emulation.

In the case of Dig Dug - Digging Strike, it was definitely apparent that the title was aimed at younger players, but I couldn't resist giving it a try. Essentially the game is the original Dig Dug on the lower screen played simultaneously with Dig Dug II on the upper screen. The concept itself is a completely natural evolution for this game, although it had been touched on with the PC title Dig Dug Deeper, where you can at least surface in order to catch that last Pooka or Fygar that always runs away.

I'm pretty sure the multiplayer mode might let you jump right in and have an arcade-style battle, but the Story mode is very nice as well. I'm a fan of most things Japanese, but not RPGs, so getting a nice RPG-style Story Mode in a game that's more suited to my tastes was a nice bonus. Even so, I just found the multitasking that was required in order to effectively play the game was more than I was willing to commit to. Even though I like Dig Dug II, the switch to drilling rather than digging was an unwelcome adjustment for me. In this game, having to dig very methodically in order to facilitate the "drilling" (actually just pre-set spikes that fall as you dig under them) on the surface just made the whole process too much of a chore for my tastes.

As I said before, I think the concept is great, and it's a very rich gaming experience for anyone who's serious about learning to play a game and has the time to do so (i.e. kids and hardcore gamers). For me, I just want a short-term enemy-blasting joyride. For this reason, I highly recommend the game to fans of the Dig Dug and Mr. Driller franchises (you'll find out in the opening sequence how they are related... I won't spoil it here), but not necessarily for anyone who just wants to play the original games. Namco Museum DS is a great option for fans of Dig Dug II, and Namco Museum for the GameBoy Advance is great for the original game.

Thanks for reading, and I hope my own personal bias against the game won't deter anyone who thinks they may enjoy it from giving it a try. I just wouldn't spend a lot of money on it if you're only buying it for the name Dig Dug.

3.0 out of 5 stars No-Go I'm afraid, January 2, 2006

This is just like the old game. I was never very good at the old game for some reason. It seems fun until you die and then I realize poor control was the reason I die every time.
I am disappointed because I thought the stylus would come into play somehow. But the stylus is not used. This game would have been just as good on the GB Advance and does not make use if the DS's capabilities.
If you like the old game, and want more, then you should buy this. Since the price dropped to $20, it may be a buy even if you only play it a few times.
I am compeled to reduce my stars even more to try and skew the current overall status. But I didn't this time. The 2 reviews below giving 5 stars are not accurate as this isn't even close to a 5 star game.
