5.0 out of 5 stars An addicting NES version of an overlooked arcade game
While Dig Dug was a smash hit, its sequel wasn't able to catch up to its popularity.

In the game, you do the same thing as the previous game: Blow up enemies with a pump. This time, however, you're on the surface.

Now that you're on the surface, you can drill into certain holes, making cracks in the ground. If one part is fully cut off, then that...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not the Dig Dug I remember
I purchased the wrong Dig Dug, which is my fault. I wanted the Dig Dug where you dig underground, but this Dig Dug is above-ground. Oh well...

2.0 out of 5 stars Great Premise but Lousy Overall Game., July 11, 2011

Dig Dug II could have been a classic NES game if minor tweaks are made. That being written, it is an impossibility to beat it for 72 consecutive rounds within normal set of lives plus any additional life gained through target points. However, it is beaten with a Game Genie if you set the codes in for infinite lives without losing a life from being killed by either the green and red creatures or water. That's why Dig Dug II is a horribly boring game to play, especially from rounds 30 to 72, because it's basically kill a couple, die, kill a couple more, die, and finish it off to survive to the next round. It gets more mindless each time a round is completed. I know it could have been a better game if several of the rules are modified more because the whole thing is quite ingenious and unique. Like I said, the game is impossible to beat in normal settings, making it a unfair game to play just like R.C. Pro-AM is. So, here are my suggestions to fix the game to ensure its classic standing. First, there should be an extra life for every 20,000 points earned. Second, instead of 16 round cycle (which doesn't fit neatly into 72 rounds, mind you), try to have 9 cycles of 8 rounds, first four easy, next two medium, and final two hard and then reset the difficulty and re-do the cycle over. That would have been a much better game to play. Third, the creatures should be slow at first to give the player a bit more time to roam around. Fourth, the pump should have been quicker to complete, limiting to 2 at most. Currently in the game, it's just too slow. That's all I can say. For now, the game sucks even though the premise is quite good. By the way, I tried the "Select + A + Start" code, and it didn't even work. I tried it dozens of times in so many different ways and still didn't work. I tried the "Press Right" code, and it didn't even work either. Either the codes are made up or there are two different cartridges of the same game.

Now that you're on the surface, you can drill into certain holes, making cracks in the ground. If one part is fully cut off, then that part will sink, along with the enemies on it.

The result is yet another addicting arcade game.

What's strange about the NES game, however, is how it's even on the NES. The first Dig Dug didn't hit the NES in America, but we still get the sequel.
