5.0 out of 5 stars Get this for python disassembly., May 24, 2008

This review is from: The Gun Digest Book of Firearms Assembly/Disassembly Part II - Revolvers (Gun Digest Book of Firearms Assembly/Disassembly: Part 2 Revolvers) (Pt. II) (Paperback)
This book is fantastic. It already saved me hundreds of dollars and much time. For example: The sideplate on my python came loose while shooting, the pawl got dislocated, and everything locked up. This was a sad day. Fortunately, this book had arrived in the afternoon. I was able to use it to completely strip all parts from the python, fix it, completely clean the action and reassemble, despite the common wisdom that the python's "swiss watch" action makes it impossible for mortals to touch and not destroy.

I've bought a lot of books I liked on amazon, this is the first that was so helpful I felt like I had to write a review.

There were a couple of things I'd like to see improved: (1) clearer pictures, (2) the book skipped one step that you had to interpolate by staring at pictures (in which details were hard to see), and (3) the author's bio is disconcertingly egomaniacal.

A more detailed, excellent book I'd also highly recommend: THE COLT DOUBLE ACTION REVOLVERS: A SHOP MANUAL, VOL. I.
by Kuhnhausen, Jerry.

Although this book is a bit dated it covers all the major brands of "Wheelguns" in detail. Smith, Colt, Ruger, Taurus etc. Enough info. for the mechanically inclined to do complete teardowns. Money well spent.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good but dated and incomplete, September 24, 2009

This review is from: The Gun Digest Book of Firearms Assembly/Disassembly Part II - Revolvers (Gun Digest Book of Firearms Assembly/Disassembly: Part 2 Revolvers) (Pt. II) (Paperback)
Very good book, detailed description, sufficient quantity of illustrations of decent quality.

The book was not revised or expanded enough compared to the first edition. For example, it still does not list Taurus revolvers such as Raging Bull or model 608 - both are quite popular.

In short, if your firearm is one of those described - it's a good book to have.

Working on Revolvers alot it pays to have a good set of books, to help you destingwish the gun if it has no marking. I have several books on differant guns most of the time to identify the gun. Than to help me repair them.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, dated, limited coverage, March 17, 2009
A Kid's Review
Good useful book - especially since manufacturers nowadays don't provide the buyer with detailed disassembly instructions.

Shortcomings - dated, and does not include such popular and wide-spread (in my opinion at least) revolvers as Taurus - e.g. Raging Bull.
