I found this book to be an excellent introduction to trap, skeet and sporting clays. The book is well laid out with clear illustrations. The writing style is friendly and easy to digest.
The book includes descriptions on many types of guns from the mundane to the exotic. While the attributes of the exotic are extolled, the author encourages his readers to get out there and give it a go with what you have.

This is exactly what I needed as a beginner. I'm soon outgrowing it, but could not have improved without it. It is also good for those who just wish to know about the sport.
This Gun Digest book covers all the basics of clay targets. All those things you must get right, or know about, in the beginning. I have increasing respect for it as I learn more

I am not new to trap & skeet shooting, but a little rusty. This book has some very good information to help knock that rust off or get someone new to the sport started off on the right foot. It also has tips to help the experienced shooter improve their score and improve their gun maintenance.

The information I was looking for was mainly for Skeet shooting. I found all the information on the different shotun sports to be very informative, especially for a novice. I would think that this book would be good for all new and many not so new shooters. Very good basic information. I can't wait for spring to try the information. Thanks to the authors.

A fine guide to the breaking of "clay" targets in flight. It covers the three major clay bird games, to include sporting clays, skeet and trap. It can serve as a primer for the nimrod and a fine refresher for the more advanced shooter when their scores begin to fall off.
Lots of action photos and a decent explanation of the origins of the differing games, the ammunition used, the different gun sizes and the various accesories.

I'm new to trap and skeet and read this book after my first time out. By simply following a few simple pieces of advice and by reading the illustrations on lead and follow-through I was able to double my scores in skeet (from 6 to 14) and went from shooting a pitiful 3 targets to shooting 9 in Trap. Great book!

This is a great book. I am new to firing a gun and this book has helped me with my aim and understanding the different types of clays. With this book and lots of practice I should be good to go.

A great book for all shotgunners either looking to start shooting or expand the number of "games" understood. This book helped to open my eyes as to the different games and the variations on games I already knew. After reading this book I signed up for a "Doubles" trap league and a "Hunt and Cover". In the future I will definately try Skeet and Bunker or International Trap.

OK, but dissapointing on the title subjects,

First and foremost the title of this book is a bit off. Sporting Clays is not in the title, but most of the book is geared towards it (that is to say approx. 58 pages vs approx 43 for trap and 43 for skeet). I am primarily interested in Trap and Skeet and really have no interest in sporting clays which admittedly is odd, but it is what it is.
There is some good content on shotguns, loads, cleaning, accessories, etc,.. but the title subjects (Trap and Skeet) could have used a more thorough treatment. Specifically in respect to skeet, at times throughout the book, the authors seem to go out of their way to trivialize the sport with comments such as; "skeet is by far the easiest", "top ranked shooters who miss eight targets out of 1,000 should consider taking up golf" (yeah, right..because golf is easy), "lack of challenge" (referring to American skeet). To be fair, there are some good points regarding Skeet to be had in this book, but as someone who primarily shoots Trap and Skeet, comments like those above are just not necessary. The treatment of Trap is better but the focus of this book seems to be Sporting Clays, which as mentioned earlier is strange for a book about Trap and Skeet. One last downer... no index. |
