New twists on classic tracks...,
By SmokaJ (TORONTO) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Diggin in Dah Vaults (Audio CD)
When this album came out, heads had only gotten a taste of the Black Moon. A few years after the release of "Enta Da Stage", came this uniquely appropriate ablum. One thing about the B.C.C, they have (well, HAD) one of the greatest production teams of the early to mid 90's; Da Beatminerz. So it was only right to remix hits after hits. In my eyes, I see this release as more of an EP, rather than a full LP, where more than half the tracks are remixes of "Enta Da Stage" hits. In fact only 5 are original songs. For one thing, the U Da Man Remix (track #5) feat. Smif-N-Wessun is one of my favorite B.C.C tracks. It's absolutely captivating. Bottom Line: A perfect album for any fan of Black Moon or the B.C.C. 3 1/2 stars. Peace.

You won't find hip hop this real anymore.,

This is one of the best albums I have ever heard. I'm glad them and the Roots are still keeping it real. Buckshot's grimy rap style is addictive as a drug. Evil Dee has untouchable beats and 5ft. plays Pippen to Buckshot's Jordan. Best tracks are "Murder mc's"(worth the album's price alone), "Six feet deep", "Buck em down" and "Son get wrec".

Usually remix/b-side joints are okay at best. This one blew it out the box. This album was released shortly after Black Moon broke up and Smif-n-Wessun left Nervous Records. At the time of the release, the BCC fans gave the disc a thumbs down. Now that the dust has settled, this one's been looked at as a great companion to "Enta Da Stage." This is a great collection of B-sides and remixes, including the remix of "I Got Cha Opin" and "Buck 'Em Down."
My only beef and the reason I didn't buy it when it first came out 10 years ago... "Reality (Killin' Every Ni@@a)" was not on the LP. If that song was on there, this LP would be even crazier, but nonetheless IT'S STILL SOLID!!! Grab ya' Tims and ya' hoodies and remember what "representing" was really about!

Dug in dah Vaults and struck gold,

Black Moon unfortunately never experienced fame and fortune like many "sellout" mainstream artists do nowadays, but real hip hop fans have always loved and respected what they brought to the table. Diggin' in dah Vaults is a collaboration of Black Moon's greatest hits...many of the songs are either from their debut album "Enta Da Stage", the album's remixes or B-sides to their successful singles. The CD insert also provides a timeline of Black Moon's rise(a nice addition). This compilation is not intended for rookies of the Black Moon experience and those without an appreciation for real hip hop and not the typical braggadocio rap. Real hip hop heads will appreciate this album from one of the greatest trios to set foot in hip hop.

A Good Companion to Enta Da Stage,
This review is from: Diggin in Dah Vaults (Audio CD)
Diggin is made up of mostly remixes of classic songs from Enta Da Stage, but also features some "new" songs as well. I thought the remixes of Son Get Wrec, U Da Man, and I Got Cha Opin (which was used for the video) were all superior to the originals. The remix of Sh*t Iz Real has new vocals by Buckshot, but basically the same beat as the original. I thought the remixes of How Many Emcees and Buck Em Down weren't as good as the original, but still okay. As for the "new" songs, the best of the bunch are Act Like U Want It, Buckshots Freestyle, and Six Feet Deep. F**k It Up is good and Murder MC's and Headz Ain't Redee are more like Boot Camp Click songs more than Black Moon but are still alright. Overall, most of the remixes are either superior to or as good as the original and the "new" songs are all good too. A very good Black Moon album.

Diggin in the Vaults is one of the best remix albums I've ever heard! Two cuts come to mind, that sum up the heavy, yet jazzy sound of mid-90s New York (rap scene). I got cha opin' (remix) and Buck em' Down (remix). It is only ashame that the group was so over taken with internal problems during this time; if they continued to put out albums of this caliber, they would still be recognized as among the greats in the industry.

What can I say, HEADS AIN'T READY, and they never will be if they don't appreciate these shmoof flows.Good dark undertones and sinister rhymings. Part of the original artform.
