3.0 out of 5 stars A flawed adaption
Anyone who has watched this show will instantly recognize it as being completely different from Pokemon, and will see how ignorant many of the comparisons to it are. The fact remains that Digimon did in fact, come out before Pokemon, and that the show has an infintely deepr plot that its "collect-'em-all" counterpart. The characters in Digimon are kids...

Three great short films from Japan based on the popular series come together in edited form to make 90 minutes of entertainment. And having Kari, one of the characters, narate the story gives the appearance of one story, which adds to the strength of this movie

The first movie is approximately 10-15 minutes long and details what happened four years before the first season of the show. Tai and his sister Kari see a digi egg exit from their computer screen and a small Digimon is born. Kari becomes attached to this creature. Eventually, the Digimon digivolves to Greymon and protects the city from Parrotmon.

The first movie has it's moment. Young Kari is adorable and even in young Tai we already begin to see Tai the leader of the Digidestined that we see in the first season of Digimon. The friendship between Kari and Agumon also adds a touching element to the story. It's almost heartbreaking when, after the Digimon disappears, Kari yells out, "Don't you wanna play with me anymore?"

We fast forward four years later. The second movie takes place after the first season of the show. It's unclear exactly when. Izzy, one of the Digidestined, joins with Tai to try and defeat this strange Digimon who is invading the internet. With the help of their Digimon, Agumon and Tentomon, they try to battle this strange Digimon. But this Digimon keeps digivolving at an accelerated rate. So Izzy contacts the other Digidestined and manages to get Matt and TK to help along with their Digimon...Patamon and Gabumon. Agumon and Gabumon are able to digivolve to their Mega level...and eventually join together and defeat this evil Digimon....or so they think...

The second movie has a lot of action...but every few minutes, the action goes down a bit so we can have some humor. The main subplot of the second movie involves a silly argument between Tai and Sora. Tai tried to give Sora a hair clip for her birthday and Sora thinks this is Tai's way of criticizing her hairstyle. :) Women! They always have to analyze everything. Anyway...the battles are intense and the music just great. Many songs from the tv show are played during the battle and you can't help but sing along...if you like the music, of course.

The third movie takes place four years later...Sometime during the second season. (Actually, the second season still hasn't reached the point at which this part of this movie is set. This is clearly seen because in the show, Patamon and Gatomon don't have the ability to warp digivolve yet, an ability they clearly have in this movie.) Anyway...in this part of the movie, we learn that the evil Digimon four years ago was created by Willis and is actually a computer virus. And it wasn't really defeated. It somehow escaped into the real world and has infected one of Willis' digimon. Willis is also a Digidestined and has twin digimon. Anyway...for the past four years, one of Willis's Digimon was infected with the virus and making Willis' life miserable. But with the help of Davis and the other Digidestined, they manage to defeat the virus again and free Cocomon from the virus' control.

The third movie, while not as charming as the first two, has some moments. Humor is one of it's strenght. The plot is a bit vague...but it doesn't hurt the movie in general.

So, if you are a fan of the show, you will not be dissappointed by this movie.

5.0 out of 5 stars Omega!, January 28, 2001
A Kid's Review
Digimon: The Movie is a segment of three movies, all relased seperately in Japan. In movie 1, before season one (the original airings on telivision), Tai (Taichi) and Kari (Hikari), two special characters, meet Koromon at ages 7 and 4. Tai is 7, Kari is 4. They meet a special Digimon who turns out to be Tai's partner in season 1. This movie was short and to me, pretty un-interesting, but I loved it anyhow!

Movie 2, aka Part 2, takes place after season 1. Izzy (Koushiro) discovers a DigiEgg on the computer. It hatches in to a baby digimon, and begins to eat up data on the internet. Soon, people from all over the world are watching the battle between Diaboromon (strongest level of digimon) on their computers. Even Yolei (Miyako) from season 2 at a young age appears, sending e-mails along with other kids to Tai, Izzy, Matt (Yamato), and T.K. (Takeru). Eventually, they beat Diaboromon.

Movie 3 takes place during season 2. Davis (Daisuke), Yolei, Cody (Iori), T.K. and Kari are hanging out at a beach. Davis, Yolei, and Cody are all new Digidestined, mind you. They meet Willis and his Digimon Terriermon. He had twin Digimon, Terriermon and Lopmon, but Lopmon ran away and grew up confused and evil. Now Lopmon, aka "Endigomon", tells Willis to "go back", as Willis comes from Colorado. WIllis created Diaboromon when he wanted three Digimon instead of two. But, when he made Diaboromon, a virus infected him and so started movie 2. But, they cut out HALF OF THIS MOVIE in the American version. Endigomon originally captures the old Digidestined in order to find Willis. THEY CUT THIS OUT! HALF OF THE MOVIE! But, it was so cool, my grandparents even liked it! "Kids in America" by Len is playing during the credits. PRODIGIOUS MOVIE! I also have a movie clip of the cut scenes in Japanese. PRODIGIOUS MOVIE!

5.0 out of 5 stars Digimon the Movie is #1, January 30, 2001
By
"tsmmitjk" (Sierra Vista, AZ United States) - See all my reviews
Digimon the Movie was soooooooo cool. Also it is actually 3 movies in 1 Movie. It starts out with the 1st segment when the Season 1 Digidestined are little kids. Although it only lasts about 15 minutes, they pack a bunch of action in it.

And in the second segment, it is after all the Season 1 Digidestined Kids adventures in the Digiworld are over, or so they think. Izzi discovered a Digi-Egg when he was using his computer. Then he rushes over to Tai's house and then, Jinia, Augumon, Biyomon, Gabumon, Palmon, Tentomon, Patamon, Gomamon, and Gatomon contact Tai and Izzi to tell them that Augumon and Tentomon are going to go to the Internet to help Tai & Izzi destroy Diaboromon. And then Tai contacts Matt & T.K. and Matt & T.K.they send Gabumon & Patamon to the Internet too. Then when Gabumon & Augumon get together they Warp Digivolve into Metalgarurumon & Wargreymon. And then the amazing happens, Wargreymon and Metalgarurumon Digivolve into Omnimon and defeat Diaporamon.

The third section is 4 years after the 2nd segment. Kari & T.K. go to New York to visit Mimi, but while they are sight seeing they see a boy named Willis and his Digimon Terriermon fighting his other Digimon Cocomon. And later Davis, Demiveemon, Yolie, Poromon, Cody, and Upamon are in America thanks to Yolie's family. and they meet Willis and get a Pizza guy to help them go to Colorado. But Davis, Veemon, Willis, & Terriermon get left behind. So Veemon armor Digivolves into Raidramon and gets them caught up with Yolie and Cody. And soon after that Kari, Angewomon, T.K., and Angemon meet up with them. And all the kids become babies again and Angemon & Angewomon Warp Digivolve to their Mega levels and then Golden Digi-Eggs are released and Veemon & Terriermon Golden Armor Digivolve and Destroy the virus in Cocomon and Cocomon and then everything goes back to normal.

5.0 out of 5 stars Officialy the best movie I've ever seen, February 2, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Digimon - The Movie (DVD)
...My favorite movies are Twice Upon A Time, Ducktales The Movie, and Pokemon The Movie 2000. And then there is this one.
It's SO COOL!!!
As many people know, this movie is from 3 seperate OVAs (which are Japanese movies that last an hour or less) that came out and took place before the series started, six months after the 1st season, and sometime during the second season (like several weeks after they defeated the Digimon Emperor.)
The only bad thing about this movie is that they completely re-wrote the script and rearranged the scenes so it looks like all 3 OVAs are linked together, and they cut out more than 40 minutes of the original films. Let's name a few of the parts that were cut/edited.
1. Tai, Matt and the other old digidestined were kidnapped by Kokomon in the 3rd movie.
2. Kokomon was not really attacked by the virus.
3. In the first movie, Tai and Kari didn't know, or were not well aquainted with the other digidestined.
4. Izzy didn't get an email from Willis, just some other kid.
5. Davis, Yolei and Cody, hitchhiked all the way to America.
6. Terriermon's original in-trainig name is Gummimon.
7. 'Kokomon' was dancing earlier on in the 3rd movie, not at the end (which would have made a lot more sense.)
8. Willis's name is originally Wallace. He also really lives in New York.
9. In the first movie, Koromon and Greymon never talked.
10. I'm not Indonesian, I'm American.
To find out about other stuff that they cut out, go to websites like ... or .... Anyway it's still a good movie. And for those of you who wonder why Agumon was so big in the first movie, I'm not going to tell. They made a 4th movie to Digimon which has Ken in it. They are also working on a fifth which will occur in the third season (ugh) but, when it will come out in America still remains a mystery.
And that's about it. And for those of you who think Pokemon and Digimon are the same, well you've got some nerve (read the other reviews to see the differences).
And one more thing, Sora wrote back to Tai apologizing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Who remembers Pokemon anymore?, December 30, 2000
By
Virginia (Mt. Sterling, KY USA) - See all my reviews
Pokemon has recently been COMPLETLY eclipsed by Digimon. The growing tv series Has had (just this summer) a movie made about it. The movie comes in three segments. In the beginning of the movie we see the ever cloudy first contact. When Greymon protects the city from Parrotmon. they never truly explained this encounter in the TV show. And after seeing the movie I belive that I understand it much better. But i will not spoil it for you. In the second segment (four years later) We see the digidestined as they were in the first season. Though I'm a bit critical of the coloring. I think it might work well with this segment. The Basic plot of this segment is that Tia and Izzy (digidestined) are fighting an internet digimon-virus thingy, with Matt and T.K. While all of this is going on Tia is trying to patch things up with his friend Sora (digidestined). Lots of action and feeling in this segment. In the last segment the new Digidestined (second season) are spit up. on two different sides of the world. they must work with an outsider Willis (Digidestined), to save the world.

I can only hope that the tv series catches up to the movie soon. Not your ordinary action flick ( like some other Copycat-NoPlot-Stupid-series-"mon" not named in this note) , where kids are bestowed with special powers and told that they must save the world...Ok. so it's exactly like that, But more. this story has a beautyful plot, felling, and action. I hope all that read this review will find it helpful and, then rush out and buy the movie. Quick Quotes " Davis is a real jerk...sometimes...Ok!Ok! so he's just a bit confused" -Kari to brother Tia after school one day " Kari hates me!" -Davis

5.0 out of 5 stars Digimon: The Movie, December 2, 2000
By A Customer
In 1991, the makers of Tamgotchi came out with a simular device called a Digimon, a digital monster. Five years later, Pokemon popped up. Many will say Digimon was a copy, but they just haven't heard of it because of less merchandising (Pokemon has actual planes and cars!) Pokemon came out with a TV show, and so did Digimon. Pokemon was very popular and came out with four movies so far. Digimon came out with this one. When I used to like Pokemon, I counted down till the first movie. I was terribly disappointed. Digimon was so cool, I decided I would get it on video as soon as it came out. It had history on the Digimon and Digidestined, and was really funny, too. I loved it a lot. I hope Digimon becomes a bit more popular and they make a sequal!

4.0 out of 5 stars Digi-fun, February 14, 2004
This review is from: Digimon - The Movie (DVD)
This is the first exposure I've had to Digimon, and I can rightfully say... I was entertained. Albeit, the show was confusing because I had NO IDEA what was going on (having never watched the show), and it felt almost like three different stories in one, which kind of chopped up the fluidity of the movie. However, the movie features fun characters, monsters, battles, and a good sense of humor. Most importantly, it wasn't that annoying. Fans of the TV series will feel right at home. Fans of Pokémon may want to watch it, also, as it's a refreshing take on the "monster collection" craze. For everyone else, it's not a bad cartoon... if you like cartoons.

A Kid's Review
This movie is excellent if you like action and Anime. (The review saying that someone got their face sliced open is wrong, that never happened in the movie) The animation is great! This movie is sad at times, but it is also funny! This would be a great gift for an Anime(Japanese animation)lover.

4.0 out of 5 stars Poké-Who???, January 5, 2001

Poke'-Who?

Pokemon was completely eclipsed this summer By the Anime TV series (now movie), Digimon. For those of you who think that Digimon is a Poke'-clone, you are dead wrong!! Digimon was there first. Digimon the movie is easily the best Anime movie this year. In three different segments, this movie tells the story of the Digi-destined from their ever cloudy beginning (BS1 before season one) to about the middle of this season (S2 season 2). Actually, the movie was first released in Japan in three segments. The fact that in the Movie Kari narrates all three segments helps to bring a sense of connection to the film.

In the first segment we see Tia and Kari, Four years BS1. We already begin to see shadows of the courageous Tia, and the compassionate Kari we see in S1. And the birth of the original Koromon. I won't spoil the segment for you, but it all came together for me when Kari cried out "Greymon, come back! Don't you want to play with me anymore?????"

In segment two we see the DD (Digi-destined[Tia, Kari,Matt, TK, Sora, Izzy, Mimi,Joe]) four years later, AS1 (after season one). The coloring in this segment and the one before it are a bit controversial but all in all it works. The plot of this segment is the birth and battle with Diaboromon; While the Main subplot is this stupid Fight Between Tai and Sora... anyway, Tai and Izzy (DD) try to keep Diaboromon busy, while they are actually leading it to government databases all over the world. But I wont Spoil the ending...

In the third segment we finally meet Willis, the computer junkie (like Izzy) from the U.S. who created Diaboromon. His computervirus-digimon somehow, once defeated, infects one of his twin digimon ( Terriormon and Cocomon), Cocomon. The third segment is about How the DD ( Davis, Yolie, Cody, Tk, Kari) Help Willis to defeat the evil computer virus... and free Cocomon.

... goes...

4.0 out of 5 stars Digimon: Digital Monsters - True Stories of the Movies, October 12, 2003
By
Sam A. Milazzo (Sydney, N.S.W Australia) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Digimon - The Movie (DVD)
Before I talk about THIS movie, I should let all you Digimon fans know about a few other things about the Digimon movies: . . .
* In the original Japanese version, there are 7 Digimon Movies, the first two are involved with Season 1, with the origin of the Digi-Destined (translated into here), the Battle with Diaboromon on the Internet where WarGreymon & MetalGarurumon DNA-Digivolve into Omnimon (translated here) and the third movie, in the middle of Season 2, where T.K. & Kari, Davis, Yolei & Cody meet Willis (finally translated). All 3 movies had various scenes cut-out as there was not enough money to make a 2hr Movie - with movie 3 having the MOST cut-out scenes, having the older Digi-Destined captured. The animation, unfortunately, is not better than the TV Show, but its movement is slightly improved. The voices do okay, but not as well as the TV Show.
The other 4 movies, beginning with the 4th Movie "Diablomon/Diaboromon Strikes Back" is set after the Digi-Destiend defeat MaloMyotismon, and they are havinga battle against Diaboromon's Baby forms who converge into Armagemon. Omnimon/Omegamon and Imperialdramon Fighter Mode cannot beat him, until Omegamon's body of energy becomes Excalibur the Sword, transforming Imperialdramon into his Paladin Mode and defeating Armagemon.
Movie 5 & 6 have not been translated and are involved with "Season 3: Digimon Tamers", the 5th Movie (in the middle of the Season between eps 18 & 19) has Takato, Henry & Rika fighting Mephitsomon-Galfmon, who attempts to controil the world with V-Pets. And the 6th Movie is set after Season 3, with more of the TV Characters fighting an evil Parasite digimon controling a train Digimon who runs amuck in the Real world.
The final 7th Digimon Movie, "Revival of the Ancient Digimon" is set in the middle of "Season 4: Digimon Frontier" where the Digi-destined come across an island where human-type and beast-type digimon war against eachother and the children must stop the deception.
All the Digimon are less than an hour, running for either 3O mins or 51 mins. However the animation in movies 5-7 is better but looking closer to the show. It would've been better if they did Movies 1-2 first, then 3-4 as a sequel, followed by 5-6 for a third movie and putting 7 as a bonus feature.
BUT IT WAS REALLY GOOD ALL THE SAME!
