This is definitely the best digimon game ever. When I first bought it I thought it would be easy. But it turned out to be challenging, which is what I prefer with video games. I also like the side quests for unlocking digivolutions and weapons. And the wide variety of weapons for your digimon is excellent. If you are a digimon fan, don't pass up your chance to buy this game. Digimon World 3 is also really good, but this is even better.

I have been waiting a long time for an adventure digimon game to come out for the GCN. Digimon world 4 is not only a great and fun game, it also has one of the best graphics. It is fun because it has a pretty good story line to it and you can choose from 4 different digimon, including the new Dorumon( I think it is new). Digimon world 4 can be a little challenging at the beginning, but once you get the hang of it, you'll love it.I was so desperate to get this game when it came out. Digimon World 4 is worth your money and time.

I'm not very good at writing these, but I wanted to put in my son's feedback.
This is a great game! The graphics are good and the game play is great. Plays smoothly unlike older versions. The Digimon are so cool they are almost like your pals. My son plays it non-stop and I even enjoy watching the game play.

When i bought this game, i didnt think it would be challenging because i'm really good at video games, but its real difficult. I died 15 times already and i still didnt beat the first level. this game is great! you wont beat the first level till you have died at least 15 times.
other than the great graphics and great gameplay, the opening movie makes the game look even better. even the digimons fur has great detail. trust me, you'll like the game, a lot!

I would like to start out that i have had this game for well over 9 years, i then traded it in and now i re ordered it... it is well worth it, but there are a few flaws. For 1. the gameplay is a mash button but it has more depth,as you fight you earn Tech points in whatever you are using I.E. Guilmon Stab, Veemon Slash, Doromon Bash, and Agumon Blunt. Now this is a fun feature as it also happens with your magic when you level it far enough you will get another "spell" it's around 500-800 tech with the spell, Which can take long, but i'm not complaining. The only complaints i have with this game actually is the loading screens, they take WAYYYY too long especially when you're playing by yourself, also some weapons that you may pick up might say "Bash" when it is actually "Blunt". Overall if you like a certain weapon type I.E. Stab, Slash, Bash or Blunt DO NOT PICK THE STARTER THAT HAS IT, you may think "but if that's the one i want why wouldn't i pick it" The answer is when you turn lvl 16 you get a digivolve into another starter that has a different weapon mastery, and around level 20 or so you can get a mega digivolve, Guilmon goes to Hkabuterimon who is blunt, Veemon goes to clavis angemon who is stab, doromon goes to weregarurumon who is slash, and agumon goes to Wargreymon who is Crush(basically claws). When you start out it becomes quite clear that you cannot run into a mob of monsters yet, i.e. hitting 3 damage at lvl 1 when creatures hit you for around 30. But that quickly fades as you level up, get new weps, new armor, digivolves etc. but be prepared to spend HOURS on this game, pulling two nighters with your friends only to get past normal mode IF THAT on one character. Which brings me to my next complaint multiplayer, yes multiplayer is fun BUT when you have to switch players so that one of your other friends can beat normal and get digivolves from normal, with everytime you switch out theres about a 30 sec loading screen for that, then one for you to go to shops, hunt monsters, etc. it does get quite annoying and very tiring. In conclusion, no this game is not for everyone, I enjoy it a lot I enjoy the challenge it brings and how heavily it relies on multiplayer BUT some multiplayer features are lacking, while some are rewarding i.e. the shops. If you want it go for it, its a fun game and even better with friends who can spend 2 or 3 nights at your house at a time. Very time consuming and well worth the price.

This is basically just an RPG game, with a focus on melee weapons, energy guns, and basic elemental attacks, rather than actual digimon attacks. The particulars can get a bit complected, so try to stay with me, here...
The weapon types are "Bash, Crush, Slash, Blunt, Shot, and Stab". Every character starts out with the basic "Shot" and "Crush" weapons, but each of the 4 starters will begin with their own preferred weapon (DORUmon = Bash Katana; Agumon = Blunt Axe; Veemon = Slash Sword; and Guilmon = Stab Daggar). Every digimon in the game is assigned a preferred weapon type and can obtain a specialized weapon that only they can use (though, doing so is incredibly hard to achieve). The "Bash, Slash, Blunt, and Stab" weapon types also have slightly more powerful "level 0" (referring to the technique (or "tech" for short) levels required to wield them) versions, which can be bought. The "Shot and Crush" weapon types do not (the lowest level of these weapons is 90; well below the "level 210" of the next most powerful versions of the other weapon types). Weapons and Armor range in power level on 3 scales: Color (white, blue, green, yellow, orange, and pink [each more powerful than the last]), Weapon Grade (A, B, Q, Y, and E [in this order, more powerful than the previous]), and number of "Mod Slots" (0-5 [allow for mod chips to be placed on the weapons and armor, potentially making a White A-Grade weapon with 5 mod slots more powerful than its Orange or Pink E-Grade counterpart). Color and Mod Slots have no bearing on the tech or experience level required to use them. A Pink Long Sword A with 5 Mod Slots would still require a Slash tech level of 0 to wield, as does the standard White Long Sword A with no mod slots. Grade determines the weapons' tech level. More powerful weapons also require higher skill levels. For example, the next more powerful Slash weapon after the Long Sword is the Bone Blade A, which requires a Slash skill level of 210 to wield. Some higher-grades of less-powerful weapons can become more powerful than lower-grades of more-powerful weapons (a Long Sword E is more powerful than a Bone Blade A and requires a higher Slash tech level to wield) MP techs are "Blast (attacks [Fire, Ice, Bolt, Dark, Venom, and Impact]), Heal (influences the effectiveness of using HP/MP disks and 'Heal/Aura and Cure' MP skills), and Force (Power-Up [yourself and/or allies] Power Down [enemies], Sleep [enemies], Resist [Self/allies], and Freeze/Bind [enemies] MP skills)". There are no digimon who specialize in MP techniques, and some are restricted by what techniques they can learn (WarGreymon can only use the "Impact" style "Blast" MP type as a physical MP attack; the rest of his MPs are "Aura" and "power up, power down, sleep, and resist". Most other digimon begin with an "Ice, Bolt, or Fire" "blast" type MP attack and may learn "Dark" and "Venom" types through increasing their "Blast" tech skill (the exact levels vary for each digimon). Unlocking most of the digimon involves having beaten the game on every difficulty mode (each difficulty is only unlockable by having beaten the game on the previous difficulty level). You can't create a new digimon on "hard" or "very hard" difficulty levels, only on "easy". Experience levels have some bearing on one's Strength and other attack and defensive abilities, making it harder for a higher-level character to "tech-up" in skills that they haven't used before, or haven't used much. The higher the tech level, the quicker they will gain more tech levels, however. Once you reach a tech level of around 100, then you may gain a tech level for almost every enemy you hit with the weapon or MP attack associated with that tech skill. There is some randomness to gainging tech levels, however. You may sometimes gain 10-20 tech levels in rapid sucession, then have to do a lot of work to gain the rest. Or you may only gain 2-3 levels at any one time, but not have to do as much work to get them, or have to do a lot of work and not gain tech levels very rapidly at all. There is a level cap of 30 tech levels per experience level, however. This is reduced to 20 tech levels once you reach a high enough experience level, and then to 10 when you reach yet another high enough experience level (it ceases to decrease at this point). These level caps make it impossible to use certain weapons until you've reached the experience levels that will allow you to obtain the proper tech levels). When a tech skill is maxed-out for that level, the name of that tech skill in the Techniques sub-menu (located in the Pause menu) will turn red. At this point, you should change to a different weapon or tactic. Very few (if any) players have ever reached the maximum experience level without the aid of an Action Replay, due to the progressively higher amounts of experience needed to level-up. A digimon will tech-up slighly faster with their preferred weapons than they will with any other tech skill. The plot itself is fairly thin, and there really isn't any true roleplaying to be done. Just a lot of hack-and-slashing and a bit of puzzle work. The game is really just all about leveling up and unlocking digimon. One wonders if this is what Rika had in mind with her origional concept of digimon in the early episodes of the Tamers series...

OK, i bet you've read all the other stupid reviews like... THIS GAME ROCKS! and THIS GAME IS THE BEST! and one about homestar runner, which has NOTHING to do with this. well, the combat style has defenatly changed, instead of you attack, your opponent attacks, you can attack as much as you want. but after a while it gets boring mashing the A button at your opponet. u have about 3 attacks to do which u would b stupid 2 do cause u end up close to the enemy, and if they touch you the deal damage. But i guess that 1 guy likes dying though. so after you raise your level to about 7 or 8, you can save leomon, which is the first level of the game. 1 good thing is that 3 other people can help mash the A button at your enemy, so rent this game before u buy it. and if u like it well... that's great.

Well like I said I would be getting the game soon and well I did. I mean this game is horribly challenging but you'll have to deal with it. It's fun though and the graphics are pretty good. I started out with my mom and nephew. My mom got Dorumon, my nephew got Veemon and I got Guilmon. What you probably didn't know was you could you magic in this game. But it's worth it.
