This review is from: Digital & Analog Communication Systems (7th Edition) (Hardcover)
For an undergraduate courses on digital and analog communication systems, this the the book that covers not only the essentials of communication systems but provides some indepth analysis as well. Luckily I got the solution manual and powerpoint slides from Pearson on their instructor resource site and this helped me a lot in preparing my lectures for the EE students. Though I am using other books likw Haykin's, Proakis's, Lathi's as well, yet this book has been consulted by me the most. The sequence of topics is different than the other books which treat analog part first. I recommend this book for all instructors who wish to teach communication systems. I purchased this book through amazon.com and is costly for us in Pakistan. The edition for subcontinent is yet to be available in Pakistan.

Complete and balanced,
This review is from: Digital & Analog Communication Systems (7th Edition) (Hardcover)
The book presents a good balance on how topics are presented. It covers the fundamental topics usually found on undergraduate communications courses. Although it represents a challange for students, as any textbook should, concepts are explained in a clear way that can be easily followed by students. I have been using it for several years, and I think it is an excellent alternative as an intoductory textbook on communication systems for engineering students.

I loved how the chapter problems asked questions that weren't even covered in that chapter (in many cases they were covered later, much later). Somewhat complex topics are covered in less than a page at times.
Don't get it...to study we used An Introduction to Digital and Analog Systems 2nd Edition. Much, much better book than this thing. This is one of those books you burn right after class is over.

I had this book for an undergrad course. In short, class should be spent with the prof next to you since it's almost impossible for undergrads to know what's going on. The first two chapters were ok, but the rest assumed that you already had an extensive knowledge of the course subject.
If you're a grad student specializing in this field, this would be good for you. If gives lots of equations and formulas with lots of greek letters to smile at you. Honestly, the prof spent more time interpreting the material rather than teaching the material. Worthless for undergrads |
