I have downloaded a few of the freebies on Amazon...I like to listen to new music and see if I can find something fun. I have to tell you...this album really surprised me. There are quite a few great songs that I wasn't expecting. I haven't kept many other free albums I've downloaded but I will definitely keep this one! A few songs I really enjoy are: What's in it for?, Closet Astrologer, Heaven and Earth & Hide it away...and I haven't even listened to the whole thing! Let me know what you think. Thank you Amazon!

I really enjoyed last year's Sub Pop sampler record* and was introduced to great bands. So when I saw this I knew it'd be good music. "Subliminal Message," "Closet Astrologer" and "What's it in for?" are all really catchy songs well worth a listen.
David Cross was a great actor in Arrested Development, and I'm sure his other stand-up routines are hilarious, but I'm not digging his Coors Light routine on this, probably because I don't drink Coors Light, and tend to ignore commercials. Also, I don't like downloading stand-up routines on my computer as they tend to get less funny with multiple listens, so its the only track I've deleted. Sorry, David Cross. "Lemonade" is poetic, as I expected from Cocorosie, though I'm not loving it as much as I like their more popular "Werewolf." Everything else is really good. Even "Musow (For Our Women)" is really interesting, though I don't quite understand the lyrics. *Still available from their website. Google "Sub pop 2009 sampler" then hit the "I'm feeling lucky" button.

Mighty Pleasant Bang,

Samplers are notoriously hit and miss, but every time I hear a cut from this one, I get a smile on my face.
I downloaded it without knowing any of the artists or cuts, and I let cuts come up at random in my shuffle mix. I know most of the tunes in my mix (they're there on purpose), but I keep some new stuff in there too, stuff I don't know, from samplers like this. A lot will come up that I'll listen to patiently, or listen for a while and then skip. I check free samplers before I download 'em, making sure they're something that might be worth the time to hear. There's a lot out there. I've learned over the past few months that nine times out of ten when a track comes up that I don't recognize, and I like it and check to see who's playing, it's a cut from this sampler.
