Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com
Wu-Tang Clan mastermind RZA's sophomore solo project comes with Kobe Bryant-high expectations. Unfortunately, there's much here to suggest that the RZA's beat-making skills need to be RZA-rected. The largely sample-based vocal loops employed on "Can't Loose" and spontaneous tempo changes on "Brooklyn Babies" hint at the full brilliance once illustrated by one of hip-hop's most avant-garde producers. Similarly, "Must Be Bobby" boasts some of the off-kilter keyboard sounds that have become a trademark of his productions. However, long gone are the experimental beats and rhymes first heard on Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers). Instead, one is left with confusing tracks in which barely decipherable rapid-fire rhymes about bedding women and shooting guns are strung together. "Black Widow Pt.2" is another one of those mediocre and offensive songs where lyrical loose cannon Ol' Dirty Bastard utters juvenile profanities. While "Show You Love" is a timely ode to the full range of Wu diehards, Bobby Digital's sexcapade rhymes square off one too many times against his 5%-Nation-of-Islam musings. Doesn't one style completely undermine the other? Well, "Build Strong" kind of sums up why RZA's once-dominant career is spiraling downwards when he raps that he's "physically enslaved by the luxuries of this world / So I behave like a man inside the grave, who's life is lost." --Dalton Higgins

4.0 out of 5 stars 3 Versions of this album!, July 22, 2005
By RNSK (PHX, AZ) - See all my reviews
This album is great, but I just wanted to let everyone know that there are actually *three* versions of this album available (not including the clean version and 17 track pre-release promo version), so pick one of those up if you're lucky enough to find them.

*Version #1: This one (18 tracks)

*Version #2: 19 tracks, all the songs included in this release, plus one extra track, "Thirsty" featuring Beretta 9. (This was only available in limited quantities but is not a "limited" edition) This was supposed to be the original version of this CD, but was discontinued due to some kind of conflict.

*Version #3: Limited edition; 20 tracks, all the songs included in original release (except "Thirsty"), plus 2 bonus tracks, "Cousins" with Doc Gyneco and "Oddyssey" feat. Isaac Hayes Band.

Those bonus tracks are bangin', so pick em up!

4.0 out of 5 stars Must be Bobby, August 30, 2001
By "bobdee74" (Culver City, CA United States) - See all my reviews
Rza is at again, piano chords and dark beats laced with the trademark flow. Bobby D has always had the most underrated flow from Shaolin and he's out to open some more third eyes with this ablum. Guest drops that stand out are Meth on "Glocko Pop", Big Gipp and Tony Touch on "D.V. #2", Gza on "Do U" and Junior Reid on Righteous Way. I was hooked after the first five songs, I had to start the disc over just to bug again off the brillance of Digital B. Oh, I can't leave out an appearance by the ODB who reps like a man on work release. This is another Wu-Tang album and should be picked up by any WU fan, Bobby is the head...A couple of songs on side 2 do not keep up with the level set on side one, but no disappointments... RZA "F**kin up the mic is still my hobby".

5.0 out of 5 stars RZA - RZA As Bobby Digital, December 25, 2005
A solid second album by RZA. He uses the same types of styles that he used in his first album. He succeeded well on this album. In lyrics and production. It has the same vibe throughout the whole album, just like RZA does. Genius production, let me break down my opinions for you.

Lyrics, wow RZA rips it up again. I think he might have done a "BIT" better on his first album than this one. But not by far, the lyrics on here and by far good. He speaks on real life topics just like on every track he spits on. There isnt a track where I think that RZA spit something weak. One track that stands out lyrically where he drops knowledge is the song called "Build Strong", he drops that real stuff. Lyrically, youll like the cd, if not you dont like real lyrics. There are funny sh** on here like "Black Widow Pt. 2" also. Look out on the lyrics when you listen to it!

Production wise, we already know RZA is a genius at his originality and how good he can keep a certain sound on an album on every single track. Well he does it here again just like he did on his first album. Every song has a certain vibe throughout it and theyall tie in together perfectly. If you liked his first album, and thought the production was hott, then youll definately be feeling this albums production. No weak beats at all, some are decent some are HOTT. Ill point out the hott ones! "Glocko Pop", "Must Be Bobby", "Brooklyn Babies", "Domestic Violence Pt. 2", "La Rhumba", "Black Widow Pt 2", "Throw Your Flag Up", "Build Strong", these are all hott beats.

Overall, this album is great. Lyrics are on point, and production, he does great throughout the whole album. Pick this up!
