Best PHOTO MAG EVER!!,
By
This review is from: Digital Camera Magazine - Incls CD-Rom (Magazine)
I concur w/ the prev. reviewer. Forget the American mags, they are either full of advertisements or they are for elitist pompous professionals who want to show off their work and make snooty comments. Digital Camera mag is great for the novice and intermediate level photographers out there who want to learn how to take great shots. They give you simple, hands-on instructions in photoshop or out in the field and how to improve YOUR photos. Sometimes they give you a cheap DIY option vs. other mag's telling you that you need to buy such and such to achieve an effect. Oh, can't forget the FREE CD PShop TUTORIALS!! Gorgeous photo spreads from other amateurs, articles about professional photographers, monthly photo contests, relevant information, friendly to the reader, and not condescending at all (like most of the camera mags out there). And yes, near the end of the mag they talk about up and coming gadgets but that's in the back where it belongs. ^_^ If you just picked up a digital SLR and want to know more about how to get the most out of it. BUY THIS MAG!!!!

Just the finest photography magazine on the market. Not filled with ads and ratings, but great how to's and tutorials. If I could read only one mag, this would be it.

Incredibly Informative, times 10!,
This review is from: Digital Camera Magazine - Incls CD-Rom (Magazine)
I had subscriptions to most of the American zines. About the only thing learned = what new cameras had been recently released, and even then, the writing style is akin to cheerleading rather than need-to-know info like noise and image quality. I cancelled them all, and instead started making monthly treks to my local newsstand for this and other UK zines. Simply stated, I learn more per issue than I do reading full books on whatever topic. One issue may be devoted to landscapes, another to macros, flowers, sunsets, etc. If you genuinely want to learn how to improve your photography, THIS is your key.
BTW, do NOT think this is all about dSLRs only. While I do have a dSLR, I also have a pocket-friendly Fuji e900 digicam (replacing an FZ50, which itself was replaced with a dSLR). The e900 has multiple dSLR-like controls. This zine teaches what control to change to get which effect in a particular circumstance, so it's also manna for those with digicams sporting an aperture/speed control dial mode, as well as white balance, exposure compensation and other tweaking controls. It's admittedly a big chunk out of your wallet in one step, but turns out, it's the best bang for the buck long term.

Fantastic Photo Magazine for Tips & Tricks,

I was researching online for photo magazines for my husband, and came across Digital Camera World, a UK publication. The magazines he's read that are American are magazines like Outdoor Photographer, American Photography, etc., and he finds that although the pictures in those magazines are stunning, there's no advice on how to get one's own photography in that realm. Digital Camera World offers reviews on equipment, how-tos for photo taking on all sorts of topics, and how-tos for how to edit photography in Photoshop, among other things. Plus, each magazine comes wrapped up with a CD disc that has even more helpful tips and tutorials. My husband really enjoys this magazine, so I decided to get him a subscription through Amazon. We've yet to receive the subscription yet (it takes awhile to get the subscription started...like 8-10 weeks?!), but my husband is definitely looking forward to it.

Subscription Difficulties w/ International Subscriptions,
By TZ1 GUY (NY, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Digital Camera Magazine - Incls CD-Rom (Magazine)
This is now the 2nd missed issue of Digital Camera Magazine in a row that mysteriously never arrived(October 2010 and November 2010 issues). Reported the October 2010 missing issue using the online subscription help form and got no response. Subsequently reported the same (October 2010) missed issue via a direct email to future@subscription.co.uk and got a response 3 days later saying that a replacement issue would be dispatched. Two weeks later and still no replacement issue for the October 2010 issue has arrived. To be completely fair, the email said the process to replace the issue could take up to 28 days, so I will update this review after their imposed deadline passes w/ the results. In the meantime, the November 2010 Digital Camera Magazine issue also never arrived. Made a direct call to England from the United States this time in order to talk to a human being directly to hopefully make them aware of a continuing problem w/ their international subscriptions (this magazine is published in the U.K.). Talked to a C.S. representative w/ their company who said she authorized a replacement issue sent for the missing November 2010 issue, but that the October 2010 issue was "sold out" and that she would add an additional issue to my subscription to make up for being unable to send the October 2010 issue. EDIT: THURSDAY, NOV. 19th 2010: Going to try and "Reader's Digest" this review since more has developed. Contacted the publisher 3 separate times making them aware of the problem of multiple undelivered issues of an "International" subscription, as this magazine is U.K. based. BOTH the missing undelivered issues have now been replaced. But, because of getting no quick indication of response to the problem using their (1)online help section, and likewise to a (2) personal email to the subscription dept. of the publisher (a postal form letter was received via snail mail days later), & (3)a trans-oceanic phone call was made to speak to a human being about the problem. The call was handled very quickly, understandingly and professionally, and as I've stated, BOTH OF THE UNDELIVERED ISSUES HAVE NOW BEEN REPLACED. Only question that remains at this time is why the lack of a more immediate response about what the publisher's plan of action is going to be regarding replacing missing issues, which makes the subscriber have to take more actions than they should have to in order to be sure that their problem is being addressed? Rating has been upgraded to 4 out of 5 stars for the excellent magazine itself and the perseverance of the publisher's staff to correct problems, but a perfect score cannot be awarded due to the slow response times to electronic communications, and those initial responses not containing any specific plans to solve the particulars of a subscription problem.

I have bought the magazine from a local book store and there is no doubt this is the best photo & Photoshop mag ever. The subscription however sucks!!! I paid on July 2nd it is now Nov.9th - over 18 weeks later - come on!!! - Really? It would get here quicker if you just stick it in a bottle and throw it in the Atlantic. If you can't get the subscription right perhaps I'll just buy it at the store every now and then.

I do a subscription with this magzine on November 2006, and till now we are on May 2007 while i am writing this review, i did not recieve any issue from them ? Although i did a full subsription payed in advance and full .
I e.mail them so many times for the reason of this unusual delay, Unfortunately they report a frustrated replies like ( we dispatched the isuue with the carrier )and many unreasonable replies, and some times they don't reply to my inquiry at all ? from the start and befor doing this unfortunate subscription with this mag, I was thinking i'am doing subscription with the Malaysian DCM issue not U.K one, and i was'nt attentive of the U.K issue befor doing that subscription . disregard on what the material & content of the U.K issue, I found this is unsatisfying even if they are the best photography magazine in the world . |
