I should first say, beware of too much of rave reviews... always suspicious. Especially from people who only have 2 reviews in their profiles...

This little cam didn't look so bad at first. The look and feel is very boxy, so it's not the prettiest out there, but I thought I'd give it a try. I don't know what the other guy was testing, but this doesn't shed light compared to a logitech or to the IPEVO pov webcam. Maybe a little below a creative.
The light may have seemed fine to him, but I did testing in different conditions: indirect sunlight, direct sunlight (partial on my face, then all of me), bulb light, office light, and rainy day light.
Conclusion: this camera is no good on contrast ratio and movement. The second you move, everything gets choppy. When you change lighting, let's say from natural light to office light, the white balance is slightly off.
The night vision: it's outperforming a creative and others, but honestly, it's not like it's crystal clear. After thinking about why I bought it, I thought, do you really want to be staring at your monitor for a long time in low lighting?? that's very bad for your eyes.
The microphone: obviously unidirectional. You're in front of it, and the sound is ok-ish, but you move 3 feet diagonally, and the other person can barely, very barely here you.

Overall conclusion: there are better values out there.

I bought one of these last week. I loaded the drivers and software without a problem. The software that came with is minimally useful, I mainly used it for testing the camera.

The picture quality is OK. Its not outstanding, but for the price, its decent.

It worked great in normal daylight indoors and at night with normal room lighting. The picture was clear. I used it with MSN chat and the other party could see and hear me clearly.

At night, in the dark, it worked beautifully. I had all the lights off. Just me and the light from a laptop LCD. When I viewed myself, the picture was clear. When I viewed the rest of the darkened room, the picture was VERY clear. It worked best when I switched to black and white mode. I could see the cat walking in the hallway with no visible light at all. I put in in the window and very clearly viewed the trees and other objects outside that I couldn't even see with my naked eye.

The camera has LED's on it and it works very well in low light conditions, but best in black and white mode.

The only drawbacks are the microphone and the LED's. The microphone is crap. Doesn't work very well at all. Not much more to say about that.

You can't shut off the LED's in low light mode. They function automatically. This would not be a problem for most people. The LED's themselves emit only a dim red light in darkness, but rendered the camera useless for my software experiment which requires light from only 1 source. I couldn't shut off the LED's short of covering them up with tape. Then there was a grid pattern on the image.

I was unable to use the camera for my software experiment, but it works fine for everyday use. I used it in conjunction with a cheap microscope to get decent pictures of some small objects. Very nice.

Overall, I'm happy with the purchase. Especially for night vision.

I would'nt really pay attention to the other negitive comments before this one. This is a really good webcam despite the fact that the frames per second are a bit slow at times. Now if you are looking for a high quality webcam then this is not the webcam for you, but if you are a poor student like me who wants a basic webcam with a built in mircophone to video chat with far away family and friends at a good price, then i would strongly recomend this camera.

I just recieved my cam. It is small but nice. I had a logitech quickcam for months that I had to put a light on my face bigtime before you would see me decently. This one I don't need to do that. It is clear with just the main light on in my room here. So it is night and day. I read a couple negative reviews on this but I thought maybe those were from some dirty company that wants you to buy a 50 dollar cam instead of a cheaper one. They know that some cheaper ones have just as good of quality but of course their low life company wants to rip you off for all you have. I swear on a stack of Bibles that this one works well. Clear and nice. I don't plug in the mic jack that comes on this since I have a 300 dollar DJ microphone I use on my pc. That is no problem if your thinking about that. Anyway I just wanted to type something quickly to fight for us consumers getting something for a fair deal and how buying the more expensive items doesn't always mean your getting something that is better. Oh and I just picked up this little cam. It has a little bit of weight to it. Weight almost always means quality. It isn't some feather light piece of garbage like you might think it could be since it is cheap. I like it. I say buy it. If not go spend 59.95 and get the shaft. alright so I bought this Webcam a couple days ago and it arrived 2 days earlier than expected which was awesome
1). Great shipping
2) If you think the webcam only works for laptops it works on regular comps to because I was a bit worried it wasn't going to work on my computer but it works fine
3) Since the clip is heavy you can either clip the webcam or you can stand it on the clip and it works perfectly fine
4) NO INSTALLATION so just plug it in and it works fine. However I am not sure if it works for aim but it definitely works for msn
5) The video quality is actually pretty good but for paying less than [...] bucks it's not like amazing but it's descent
6) I haven't check the sound quality yet so I can't really comment on that
7) Overall this product was a great buy and if you are thinking of buying it you should. NO regrets worth the money.

GREAT PRODUCT

I bought this camera almost a year a go and it works fine, but the lack of documentation makes it hard to find Linux drivers. I can't even find the manufactures name on the packaging or CD.

This camera does the job, especially for being at such a low price. I use this when I talk to friends and family on skype and they have said that voice and picture clarity is better than decent - wouldn't say perfect but just about.

The LED lights only work when you are in a dark room. I saw that a few people had mention that it didn't work at all. I was looking for a switch at first, but I walked by my room when the curtains were shut, and the LED lights were working.

It was very easy to install as well. I just plugged it into my USB port, the computer read the device, and it was good to go!

If you're looking for an easy, simple camera to skype or whatever, then this camera is perfect for you!

Fairly good product for what you pay. Would have been nice to be able and turn off the lighting, also my USB and Audio ports are on opposite sides of my laptop so I had to buy a cord so my audio could plug in. I havent actually ued the can yet but have tested it with Skype, and seem to be pretty good even if you have to manualy focus the cam. No software and the pakaging was something to be desired (came in a zip lock bag) with no padding.

I knew when I purchased this that there was a chance the quality of video or audio would be terrible. When it arrived in the package, I wasn't put off by the way it looked, although the LED lights seemed uneccessary. The only problem with this camera is that it didn't work. It says that it is Plug and Play compatible, however that is not the case. I can't find any software anywhere available for download either. There are other good reviews on this product so maybe it will work for you ... Good luck. My advice is not to waste your money.

Well considering I had not paid alot it makes for an okay cam the clarity is good but as for my complaint it had no real instruction to it and the cord attached was too short it just barely fit my daughters laptop. Other than that I guess the saying you get what you paid for comes to mind.
