Book Description

3540672656 978-3540672654 March 30, 2000 1
On the way towards the Information Society, global networks such as the Internet, together with mobile computing, have made wide-area computing over virtual communities a reality. Digital city projects, with the goal of building platforms to support community networking, are going on worldwide. This is the first book devoted to digital cities. It is based on an international symposium held in Kyoto, Japan, in September 1999. The 34 revised full papers presented were carefully selected for inclusion in the book; they reflect the state of the art in this exciting new field of interdisciplinary research and development. The book is divided into parts on design and analysis, digital city experiments, community network experiments, applications, visualization technologies, mobile technologies, and social interaction and communityware.

4.0 out of 5 stars esoteric specialty, August 19, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Digital Cities: Technologies, Experiences, and Future Perspectives (Lecture Notes in Computer Science) (Paperback)
i gave this 1 4 stars mainly because i was just happy to find a book that specificlly deals with this slightly esoteric subject. although i think its OVER PRICED, i am still very happy with this purchase, it is a good resource for digital city projects, out lining the major goals, problems, achievments :) and gives clues for future trends. the pros; includes hard to find & usefull info on real projects (not the usual theoretical bla bla). intersting accounts from various points of view on this topic (some read like a press relaese/ marketing breif, some like an academic report) the cons: low productoin value (for the price) the paper is cheap, annoying typos -some one forgot to proof read, un -even quality-some of the projects presented arnt related to the subject closely enough, lack of editing focus or statement, and most projects are from 1999 n before

bottom line- if ur intu this topic, buy this book, ull b happy to have the info at hand but dont expect anything more than what it says it is- a collectin of lecture notes. some inspiring some dull. :) & thank u....
