This book takes the reader completely through digital electronics from the simple circuits to the most advanced. If you have no prior knowledge of digital, though, you may get overwhelmed. I learned this material in school 8 years ago and I had several times I had to scratch my head and try to figure out what the auther was talking about. Basically, he assumes some prior knowledge electronics and boolian algebra and does not explain things well. The laws for boolian algebra are given one page with no examples of how they work. In my opinion, they should have had a chapter devoted to them. If you are looking for a good review book, this is a good one. If you are trying to learn the material from scratch, you may want to find another book (unless you have a tutor).

1.0 out of 5 stars The knowledge is in there somewhere?, May 22, 2001

This review is from: Digital Electronics: For the Hobbyist, Technician & Engineer (Paperback)
I had a lot of trouble following the author's train of thought in this book. Chapter One on Analog vs. Digital is two pages long and chapter Two on Logic Gates is one page long. The definitions of terms are sparse simple sentences that leave the reader lost. The problems at the end of the chapters ask questions about terms and subjects which were never mentioned in the text. It is a good thing the answers were in the back of the book. The schematics and truth tables look like they were drawn with a black crayon. There is a lot of information in this "tomb." But, all in all, it is just a poorly written book. Digital electronics is a subject that requires some skill in conveying concepts that are hard to understand. I do hope that my efforts here will save another from making the mistake of buying this title.
