Book Description

This final year/postgraduate text for courses in digital filters or digital signal processing deals with the construction of algorithms that filter data into useful information. It starts with the basics and goes on to cover advanced topics such as recursive and non-recursive filters (including optimization techniques), wave digital filters and DFTs. A new chapter on the application of digital signal processing offers up-to-date techniques and there are new problems and examples throughout. A solutions manual is available (0-07-002122-8). Other features new to this second edition include chapters on quasi-Newton and minimax optimization algorithms for the design of recursive filters and equalizers, and efficient and robust algorithms for the design of nonrecursive filters and differentiators. HLP computer language is now replaced with Pascal.

5.0 out of 5 stars Digital Filters: Analysis, Design, and Applications, June 30, 2001
This review is from: Digital Filters: Analysis, Design and Applications (Hardcover)
An Excellent text as well as a design reference for practicing engineers. The book is written in a clear and illustrative style by a distinguished authority in the field of Digital Signal Processing. In my opinion, it is the only textbook that enables one to fully understand and design digital filters using several approaches.

The text is unique in containing an essential chapter (ch.#5) dedicated for analog filter design which cannot be found in most texts. In most of the text, design is performed for prescribed specifications which reflects the practicality of the design methods illustrated.

It is merely the only text book to illustrate, in great details, the design of digital filters using optimization approaches (chs. #14, 15). The flow of information is incredibly smooth and the book has full range of detailed design examples. The treatment of finite-word-length effects in digital filters in ch. #13 combines the traditional techniques as well as techniques related to the state-space system descriptions. This is in addition to the material in ch. #12 for the design of wave digital filters.

I have gone through all of the book and implemented over 90% of its design techniques. I strongly recommend this text as a text for final undergrad/grad E.E. students as well as DSP designers. I also wish that the author would consider writing another book in Analog Filter Design.

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent textbook as well as handbook, January 21, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Digital Filters: Analysis, Design and Applications (Hardcover)
This is a good text book for the undergraduate and graduate students majoring in signal processing and telecommunications. The content is up to date and carefully revised. It's also a good handbook for engineers who want to design various kinds of filters and apply them to the applications.

4.0 out of 5 stars Digital Filters, Andreas Antoniou, December 5, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Digital Filters: Analysis, Design and Applications (Hardcover)
This is NOT meant as a review, but as a suggestion, to help you to sell this and related books.

Antoniou's book is an applied form of digital signal processing, and is of general interest to your other clientele who look for info in that area, yet your recommended list of subject areas makes no mention of DSP, which has hordes of good related material.

Suggest you revamp your connections to the Antoniou book, to make sure it gets mentioned when people are looking for other DSP books.
