5.0 out of 5 stars Best Value Digital Frame available today
This Digital Frame (DFP-104) is the best value digital picture frame available in the market at this time.

It is also the simplest to use to display and manage digital images since it works directly from SmartMedia and
CompactFlash media cards. No USB download from a PC or camera, which can be an excruciatingly tedious procedure
for other digital frames...

1.0 out of 5 stars Very Poor Quality
Picture quality is extremely disappointing. It must be using 8-bit color. In 16-bit color (found on most computers) pictures look very good. I wouldn't waste my money on this product for pictures. If you want to use it as a sign with directions or just messages, it would be fine. But anything else....well, just forget it.

Your photos will look awful in this frame. Nothing even close to what you would see on your computer monitor (LCD panel or tube). Nothing even close to what they show on their advertising of this frame either.

The resolution is 800x600, but the pictures all looks "blocky." Even when using photo software to sample the photo down to 800x600 and previewing it on my PC, it still looks blocky.

Also, the edges of the picture tend to "wash out" and be brighter than the rest of the photo. You can adjust the brightness, but then the center of the picture is too dark and the edges still look whitewashed.

Their tag line is "easier than putting a picture into a frame." Maybe. But nothing close to the quality of printing a picture or looking at it on your computer.

We got this for my parents for Christmas. We'll be returning it and getting them something else.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not what it's cracked up to be!, October 15, 2003

This is STN screen and not all that clear you should check ot some of the new 8x10 MemoryFrames with TFT. They are 800x600 dpi, have sound and a great picture. You can upload directly from a USB camera too and it shows up to 80 pics. I saw it at a recent photo show and it looks great. I can't wait to get one!
I think the company is Pacific Digital. Check it out before you are dissapointed with this one. If you're into digital photography the Memoryframe is the way to go.

2.0 out of 5 stars Digital frame, January 2, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Digital Frames, Inc. 10" Digital Picture Frame (Electronics)
I have previously owned a DigiFrame frame that was pretty high end and very small so I tried this Digital Frame. The controls are not well explained and the photo quality is poor. There is a MAJOR blue hue to all photos. The photo quality is much better with Digiframe but the cost is almost twice as much. I would not recommend this frame, and when searching for digital frames, make sure that there are controls to "tweek" the color and brightness. good luck!

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor Viewing Quality, March 1, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Digital Frames, Inc. 10" Digital Picture Frame (Electronics)
This digital frame has perpendicular horizontal and vertical viewing angle. If you are not looking straight on at the frame you cannot see the picture. The contrast is also very harsh. Its shades of black are minimal so if any of your pictures have varying shades of black they will all blend together. So no night shots or shadows. Remember when laptops first hit the market you had to be right in front of the LCD panel to see the screen. This is what it is like using the Digital Picture Frame

1.0 out of 5 stars Misrepresented, August 2, 2003

After seeing the ads for the Digital Frame, My mother ordered it for my birthday. It arrived today *August 1)in time, but right now - we are disappointed. Unlike the clear, full color pics shown in the ads, the pictures on the Digital Frame are washed out, pale, grainy, and if YOU do not view from direct center, even turn "negative". I am a photographer - have done work for newspapers and magazines - and the Digital Frame makes good photos look bad, and bad ones - well..... Either the display is bad, or the product - but when viewd, a black or a dark color turns negative and when viewed from the side, it is a negative. COlors are pale - not crisp and clean like on a current laptop, of flat panel monitor. When viewed in daylight, you can hardly see the pictures. And at night - not much better. I was hoping that i would get the clarity of a laptop, at the least, but laptops four years ago were clearer. I will definately tell everyone that this product, as far as I am concerned, is misrepresented in its avertising. The quality is poor. However, the casing is very nice, buttons easy to use, compact flash very accessable - too bad the quality of the picture did not match the rest of the design. ...

1.0 out of 5 stars Not what it's cracked up to be., August 14, 2003

My review is going to sound similar to others already posted, but I want to make sure everyone out there knows the facts before purchasing this product. The resolution is not very good even for pictures sized to 800x600. You have to be at least 3 feet away to not be distracted by the picture quality. Also, the viewing angle is VERY limited without the picture appearing photo-negative. When landscape oriented, the horizontal angle is ~30 degrees on either side, but the vertical angle is even less than that! Not very helpful if tilting the frame back on it's picture frame stand. Something else they could have improved on would be to offer a DC outlet on the back so that you don't have to see the cord. Also, when using the SmartMedia card, about a 1/4" of the card sticks out and when using the CompactFlash, the eject button also sticks out about 1/4". For about the same price, I would recommend buying an inexpensive laptop and running a slideshow of your photos; I think you'd be much happier.

1.0 out of 5 stars digital frame blahs, July 31, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Digital Frames, Inc. 10" Digital Picture Frame (Electronics)
Nice idea, but the image quality is very poor. Adjusting the images to the recommended size still produced a very grainy view, no matter what angle you view from. You'll be better off using a laptop and viewing/displaying photos with a slideshow feature available on most photo software.

2.0 out of 5 stars Setting expectations for DPF-104, July 31, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Digital Frames, Inc. 10" Digital Picture Frame (Electronics)
Just received and setup the DPF-104. I was immediately disappointed with the clarity of the display - even for images specifically sized at 600x800 (max resolution of unit). The LCD has a VERY narrow angle of view - you almost have to look at frame directly 90 degrees to the LCD to get a clear view. I would also say that color rendition and saturation is nothing to get excited about. Another annoying point is that even pictures already stored in portrait (600wide x 800tall) still need to be rotated manually on the frame (and reset every time you unplug the card). I own several Kodak SmartFrames, which unfortunately have a small, landscape only, LCD -- but they are razor sharp with excellent color. Must say, however, that my recent warranty repair experience with the manufacturer was excellent.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Value Digital Frame available today, December 11, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Digital Frames, Inc. 10" Digital Picture Frame (Electronics)
This Digital Frame (DFP-104) is the best value digital picture frame available in the market at this time.

It is also the simplest to use to display and manage digital images since it works directly from SmartMedia and
CompactFlash media cards. No USB download from a PC or camera, which can be an excruciatingly tedious procedure
for other digital frames. Menu button functions are simple, quick acting and easy to figure out.

While is it extremely simple to transfer images into this frame, it is important to remember that owning a digital camera
does not make every picture a perfect shot. All images need to be retouched, cropped, brighten, saturation boosted, or
have other retouches done in a PC before being loaded into a digital frame, if anyone is to expect good display images.

Picture quality is on par with other frames (24-bit color) even though viewing angle is not as wide as with TFT screens, but
in practical use this proves not to matter as almost everyone views any display from in front anyway. Resolution is
800x600 so imagery is not the same as on a big PC screen, but then a 17" 1024x768 digital picture frame costs $2,500.
This frame will not fix bad photography, but it won't hurt it either. Bad images are usually the result of "pilot error", not
hardware.

We have checked out all digital picture frames available at this time, and find this unit to be the easiest to use and most
certainly the best value in any size now available for sale.
