5.0 out of 5 stars Probably the best golf DVD there is
Finally a made for DVD golf instructional. Simon Holmes is a real trainer and coach - and it shows. This is not about "once-in-a-million" shots by some pro that are impossible for anybody else to do but about solid instruction for all level of players. With over two hours on the DVD the different segments (e.g. the Swing) are systematically developed and...

THE BAD
I can't say I dislike this item, but I did not like it either. Even though I'm still a novice golfer (score between 95-105) and been playing for about 18 months, I've read a lot of golf fundamentals articles and studied like 4 other DVDs ...(yes I'm an instruction junky) and I can say that this instrutor (Simon Holmes) misses to point out many important...

This is not about "once-in-a-million" shots by some pro that are impossible for anybody else to do but about solid instruction for all level of players. With over two hours on the DVD the different segments (e.g. the Swing) are systematically developed and presented. The DVD navigation also allows you to go directly to all relevant areas, for example Impact drills for slicers or Controlling distance in bunker shots. This is a DVD that you'll come back to many times.

THE BAD
I can't say I dislike this item, but I did not like it either. Even though I'm still a novice golfer (score between 95-105) and been playing for about 18 months, I've read a lot of golf fundamentals articles and studied like 4 other DVDs ...(yes I'm an instruction junky) and I can say that this instrutor (Simon Holmes) misses to point out many important fundamental factors that influence a good swing, and even though I like how the DVD has a well structured lesson category listing, he does not explain deeply enough on many things.
The filming production seems to have a good intention for this DVD, but it lacks camera closeups/slowmotions on the ball, clubhead, ball lies and graphical enhancements for better understanding of what he want's to explain. I mean with today's technology on DVD production, this seems to be a cheap one.

THE GOOD
He has very good tips on many subjects that I think they're transparent for a very beginner.
If this is not your first instructional DVD, and just want to gather a new bunch of tips, then buy it. Otherwise a better selection that I can reccomend for a complete golf school DVD, is the Wally Armstrong's Ultimate Golfing Experience. The set is very cheap because it's a compilation of old '80s and 90'videos from that instructor, and from the 5 DVD's in the box, you can thrash 2 if you like, but for $17 bucks...HEY!! is worth it!

I hope this helps and saves you some money.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Man IS a Genious, May 8, 2004

I have been looking for a good golf video for quite some time, then I discovered Digital Golfschool. If you are new to the golf game, or looking for a few good drills for a slice or hook, this video is a must have!! If your a beginner, this video is priceless, Simon is clear and concise and will bring your game from horrible to the point where you can go on the course with some confidence. Make no mistake, this video (like many others) will not make you a pro, but if you practice what he says, your game will change for the better very quickly!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Overview of The Fundamentals, February 15, 2005

This review is from: Digital Golf School (DVD)
I am a novice Golfer. I was looking for a video on fundamentals. I decided to give this a try. I am glad I got this DVD. I would highly reccomend it for a novice such as me. It may also be helpful to someone who wants to brush up on their fundamentals.

I like the first advice he gives "Dont be an instruction Junkie" .

The DVD is in 16:9 format which plays great on my portable DVD player and my TV. The DVD is categorized into chapters and subchapters with titles. This makes it very easty to 'browse' to a particular lesson you want. You can also play the entire DVD from beginning to end.

He is very practical and understands the shortcomigs of the novice Golfer. The DVD is filled with a cornucopia of tips and tricks.

I plan to keep this DVD and it will be may staple reference to review all my fundamentals.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simon Holmes may be the best teacher in the world., March 17, 2004

Butch Harmon may teach the best athlete in golf, but how many of us can do any of the things Tiger can do. Simon Holmes can turn twenty-five handicappers into 12's, 12's into 8's, and pros into winners (Suzanne Petteresen on the LPGA and Joakim Haeggman, winner of last weeks Qatar Masters on the European tour). I have seen Simon perform miracles, and I am sure he and his video will improve your game.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well organized - Best Golf DVD around, August 8, 2005

This review is from: Digital Golf School (DVD)
He highlights the concepts very well, for example the chapter on ball striking, i never knew this concept in 2 years of playing golf.

Must watch, this DVD is made of several small chapters that have meaningful titles, therefore on the second viewing u can jump to the chapter that requires repeat viewing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Using YOUR perspective!, May 31, 2007
This review is from: Digital Golf School (DVD)
This golf instruction dvd is superb. Simon Holmes is a great instructer, and manages to explain the principles of golf in an easy-to-understand, as well as easy-to-put-to-use manner. I've seen several of David Leadbetter's instruction videos as well, and they're fine, but Simon Holmes is way better because of one single element. His instructions focuses on your perspective by explaining the the fundamentals of golf in a way that YOU can incorporate the next time you go to the range or to play a round. There's no need to radically change the way you play to get the perfect swing (read: Leadbetter). Rather he focuses on simple things like wrist positions and thoughts on ball placement that you can put to use easily. This aspect alone, in my opinion, makes Simon Holmes the greates instructor I have come across so far.

5.0 out of 5 stars Digital Golf School, October 22, 2007
This review is from: Digital Golf School (DVD)
The golf instructor in our Adult Education program uses the DVD with the students in his class. He finds it an extremely useful tool in showing his students the correct swing for golf. He was desparate to get this DVD for his students and is thrilled to have it.
