This is a nice product, but it has one little problem - when I'm using wideangle, the hood appears in the corners. Be careful, when you're using wideangle.

Absolutely correct, the hood is visible in the 28mm setting. Even with that drawback, I am very happy with the purchase. My photos have improved in contrast and color depth. I cannot imagine ever shooting without it again. It is quite large and at first was unsure if I liked it. After a short while I realized how much easier it was to hold the camera steady with the hood attached. Everything lays perfectly in your flat palm with very good balance. This is a must have product!

This is the second one of these hoods I've purchased. Once I figured out just where and how much material to remove from the inside shelf, I was able to solve the 'dark corners' problem at the wide angle setting. It's a simple procedure that anyone with a rotary tool(quick way) or a half-round file(long way) can accomplish. Just file a semi-circle of material, 7/16" wide by 3/8" deep, from the shelf in the areas corresponding to the corners of the camera sensor and the problem is solved for once and for all. I now have one for my SONY H7 and one for my HX-1. I have given this product a four star rating because I feel the manufacturer should have recognized this problem and incorporated the remedy in the mold.

I just got the Lens Hood and I can honestly say, that I haven't used it yet, so I can not comment on the quality of my pictures, though I'm sure it works. What I will say, if anyone is interested, is that the hood itself is shipped in two parts. The hood itself (plastic) and an adapter (metal), which I was not expecting. Oh, and the wipe (woo hoo) It's pretty sturdy. Screws together and to the camera. The hood itself can rotate while on the camera; just don't screw it on too tight. I like it. Can't wait to use it for real.

Works well but has drawback if you plan to use a filter with it . . .,

I bought this item to use with my Sony DSC HX1 and it works well with the unit. The unit is screwed directly to the body of the camera, rather than to the lens. Hence it does not extend when the lens moves out when taking a telephoto picture.
I had hoped to use 72 mm filters such as the Polaroid and ultraviolet filters. These fit well on this hard lens hood, but adding the filter means that the hood now will restrict a wide angle view slightly. Not a big problem, but one should know about that. A more serious proglem when using the filters is that when the HX1 lens is extended all the way out in its maximum telephoto setting, the lens will extend about a half inch beyond the filter, as the hood is attached to the body of the camera and hence does not move with the lens. I've not tested it, but I would assume that this could damage the telephoto mechanism. Hence if one uses the filters, they should be very careful not to use the telephoto beyond the mid-range. A preferred solution would be to have the filters attached directly to the lens. However the lens body does not have any threads on it and hence screwing a filter to it is not an option

This hood for the Sony Camera is one of the best accessories you could purchase. It has made a world of difference in some shots. Amazon always seems to have the best selection of almost anything one would need. Thanks Amazon again!!

I was a little dissapointed about this, I wanted a lens hood to my sony without adapter, bus you must use the adapter to work.

I got this when I ordered the Sony DSC-HX1 DSLR camera. Amazon recommended it, but I don't. It came w/ an adaptor, so this makes it longer. Its only good if you use your camera to zoom in. When taking photo's in Wide angle the sides of the hood are in the photo. You can no longer use your lens cap as well.
Waste of money....
