This book is what the doctor ordered when it comes to the Ins and Outs of Computer Based Digital Recording, it'll show you how to understand the Hardware and Software needed to make it all work on your musical projects, A must have for newbies to this confusing world of Digital Music. I like to Thank the Author for this no-nonsense approach to the basics.

A bit too sketchy,

My first impression of this book was that it was superficial and chatty with little substatial information. After more careful reading, I realized that the book actually has quite a lot of in-depth information in certain areas, but is severely lacking in others and doesn't put all the information together in a cohesive manner. For example, it covers some very advanced topics, like how to clean your DAT deck (!), which may not be of much use to most home recordists, while there is little really practical information on mixing strategies, equalization, miking etc. The book is a bit better on MIDI and computer recording. It's not a bad book, but as a more comprehensive introduction to home recording I would instead recommend "Home recording for Musicians for Dummies".

The editor does an excellent job of assembling an informative collection of previously written works. An easy straight read.
