Editorial Reviews

Review

A desktop reference of common sense, conversational definitions of common terms, acronyms, and buzzwords used to describe the concepts, processes, practices and technology of digital imaging -- PhotoSource International

Allworth Press does an excellent job of assessing the current informational needs of photographers (and others). This book . . . is very much a case in point. It provides an admirably clear, completely current reference to the terminology used in acquiring, enhancing and outputting digital images. You can use it to steer your way through manuals and hardware and software specifications and reviews. It will also help you to communicate successfully with your service bureau. Many of us are drowning in new technology of all kinds. . . . All but the most experienced digital practitioners can learn from this book, which can speed your way through the technology maze -- Stock Photo Report

Farace's excellent resource provides basic, solid information in the evolving field of digital imaging. The author's credentials are impeccable and his writing style direct and easy to understand. He makes the complicated manageable and indicates cross-references in boldface. . . . An outstanding tool for those beginning to work in this field. All levels -- Choice

Photographers working in the digital realm now have a dictionary which defines over 500 of the most common terms and buzzwords used to describe concepts and techniques of digital imaging. Most titles on the topic are tomes which must be read through: this serves as an instant desk reference, providing at-a-glance information useful for interpreting software, program guides, and computer functions alike. -- Midwest Book Review

Whether you're reading articles about new software and hardware or dealing with prepress houses and printers, this book has the definitions you need to sound and feel knowledgeable about a subject that changes as rapidly as the weather. This dictionary will help you understand technical terms and the technology that inspired them. . . . Included in Farace's plain English definitions (this book has the most understandable definition of RAM that I've ever heard or read) are personal experiences and tips on how to avoid problems. If you're unsure how to communicate in the digital world, keeping this book by your side would be a good idea -- Communication Arts

5.0 out of 5 stars I think is is accurate and invaluable, September 29, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Digital Imaging Dictionary: A Desktop Reference for Photographers, Graphic Designers, Prepress Houses (Paperback)
I am a professional portait and fine art photographer. I have used the book since it was first published and have found it to be invaluable when writing or explaining some of the value added advantages of digital imaging. P.S. The individual who only read about the book should try reading it. If his attention span is long enough.
