4.0 out of 5 stars Repairs some light scratches
This product is great for cleaning up minor scratches on CD's. It will not repair gouges or huge scratches you can see across the room. It is designed so that it takes very little plastic off the surface in order to allow multiple repairs to the disk. It is slow because it has to run over the CD scratch many times to polish the scratch out. Also you don't have to...

2.0 out of 5 stars Too expensive, not effective
It sounds nice to pay... for an item that could save hundreds in replacement costs. One problem, it does not really work that well and it is a pain to use.

It will clean. It might fix some scratches, but clearly not all of them.

Also, you hand will get tired while using it because the mechanism runs slooooowly.

When used per the directions it makes skipping CD's play smoothly again.

The DataRX by Skipdoctor looks prommising, and now that the price is lower than the $39.99 my wife paid a year ago, it looks like a good deal, but it's really one of the worse products out there.

First, the unit is three pieces, the disk holder, the polishing wheel and the unit itself. Th disk holder pops out and really is not safe in the machine for storage, so you store it seperate and risk losing it.

Second, the unit does not polish, it simply scratches the disk from outside to center to eliminate lines going across the disk surface, it's those lines that confuse the laser in your player, but the reusult is ugly and uneven.

Third, the unit does not "polish" to the center, but slightly off center. This could easliy be remidied by a small change in disign, why they would scratch the disk just slightly off on purpose makes no sence.

Fourth, finger cramps!!! The unit does not hold itself on, you must hold down a heavy triger and wait several loud, mind-numbing minutes for one pass, then you really should reverse it and run it though backwards, this gives the surface a higher polish.

Fifth, the wheel peals. The surface of the scratching wheel is rubber and overlaps itself, it then peals up and locks the machine while in use.

Six, done? No. You have to take the disk out, lay it down and POLISH IT BY HAND!!! That's right, it comes with a cloth to polish the disk by hand to remove the nasty scratches the machine makes. This, again, preventable by simply putting a polishing disk in the package so you could run the DVD through dry and clean it up.

This product belongs in the garbage can. Avoid it.
