5.0 out of 5 stars A Most Excellent Product!
This product does exactly as advertised, it not only fixes Audio Cd's, it also fixes Playstation Games, Cd-rom's, and DVD's! I work in a video store that rely's on this product day in and day out to fix our product's that are abused by our customer's. We've tried many low cost solution's, and so far this is the only one we have found that works.

1.0 out of 5 stars DVD Doctor is terrible - BEWARE
I had a brand new Shrek DVD. It started skipping. I figured my kids must have finger printed the DVD. The perfect job for this product, or so I thought. I followed the directions exactly. This thing rendered the DVD unreadable.

I took it back to the store and demanded a refund for this product and a replacement of the DVD. I am glad I was able to get both.

5.0 out of 5 stars Does exactly what it claims to do, June 11, 2002

I normally have no need for such a product, as I'm very careful
with my CDs and DVDs, and I've had experience repairing one CD
using the toothpaste/water/finger method (this CD was left by
someone in a player I bought -- it was totally unplayable and
I restored it to a mostly playable state).

However, DVDs are more picky, and I had a DVD (Disc III of
Cleopatra -- the disc with the extras) that had some "gunk" on
it when I pulled it out of its cardboard sleeve which turned out
to be adhesive used in the packaging, and in the process of
trying to remove it I had made the disk totally unplayable (my
Pioneer DV-525 didn't even recognize it as a DVD!) due to having
a thin layer of adhesive smeared over about a third of the disk
-- plus some light surface scratching from my removal attempts.

So I bought the DVD doctor, and followed the instructions. After
running it through 2 full cycles and 2 cycles across the third
of the disc with the adhesive smear, my player now recognized the
disc as a DVD, but still said it was unplayable. Close
examination of the disk revealed just a bit of adhesive on the
innermost portion of the disk (the lead-in tracks -- and it took
*close* examination to see it -- the disk otherwise looked
perfect) -- so I did something I don't recommend unless you
really know what you are doing: I removed the grinding wheel from
the DVD Doctor and manually ground that section of the disk, then
I replaced the wheel, did a double sweep over that half of the
disk, and then used the buffing felt even harder than I had
before. The result: the disc now plays with no problems!

This is a great product, with the only caveat that it doesn't
do quite as good a job on the innermost portion of the disc --
but most scratches won't be there anyway.

What a rare find! A product that performs just like they say it will. The quick, easy and effective repairs this great device performed on my damaged CD's meant I didn't have to replace them. If you have any damaged CD's, this is the way to go!

I have rented a DVD that was "doctored" and it was also unreadable. This thing is horrible! Buy at your own risk!

1.0 out of 5 stars Ruined My DVD Then Broke!, August 13, 2001
This review is from: Digital Innovations 10401 DVD Doctor (Electronics)
I bought one of these about a year ago, but I didn't use it (the disk I thought was scratched turned out only to be dirty). When I got a new DVD that was having problems, I thought, "I'll give it a polish in the disk doctor, that'll put things right!"

Unfortunately, it didn't work out that way. The disk doctor's gears didn't engage properly, so it didn't turn the disk while polishing, and it scored the surface really badly, so much so that the disk doesn't read at all anymore.

Then the axle on the disk holder broke.

In summary, if you want to ruin your disks, there are cheaper ways. Count me as one VERY unhappy customer!

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm a Consumer who was suprised by this little thingie, December 13, 2002
This review is from: Digital Innovations 10401 DVD Doctor (Electronics)
Ok let me get this straight from the get go, I am not someone who works for this company or any other, I am a consumer that works at Blockbuster, and buys alot of used games. I work at a rental enviorment where lots of customers don't take care of the products. When I buy the used games, they are usually all scratched up. I recently purchased ICO for the PS2, and it didn't even start in my Playstation 2. After buying the DVD Doctor, I prayed and used it on ICO. To my amazed glory, the game worked after the use of the DVD doctor. I was really scared because of all the negative reviews of the product. It does not 100% fix anything, but the game works without any skips, or flaws. When you buy this, don't expect it to make your games or DVD brand new, it makes them work again. I am happy with this product, Kudos to DI!

1.0 out of 5 stars CD Destroyer!, May 16, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Digital Innovations 10401 DVD Doctor (Electronics)
I bought this item hoping to restore some of my treasured older CDs - after very carefully reading the instructions, I tried it on one of my less-favored CDs (just in case). After ONE gentle round, my CD was scarred beyong recognition!? Thinking it was my fault, I re-read hte instructions & tried again with another CD - same results. This product is a hazard to CDs!

3.0 out of 5 stars It works, December 18, 2000

This is an odd product. Essentially, what it does is wet sands your DVD's, CD's, etc.. It takes a lot of arm power, but in the end, it will wet sand out any scratches or nicks in your disc. If your disc has a minor scratch it will take care of the problem. If it's a major scratch you might find yourself going through the process a few times to wear it down enough to get it work. The tricky part is that you have to follow the directions precisely for it to work. Not a hard thing, really, but if you don't, you can end up obscuring the disc so the laser is unable to read it. I would guess the reviewer who said it didn't work didn't follow the directions correctly. For a few bucks, it's worth it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Doctor Is IN!, January 15, 2006
This review is from: Digital Innovations 10401 DVD Doctor (Electronics)
I bought this to repair a few used DVD movies that I had purchased, which were completely unplayable even after multiple cleanings with just soap and warm water. Basically, they were covered in dust and were covered in light to medium scratches across the surface. After a single use, or two for the really bad scratches, the discs played perfectly without a skip or hang! I believe the bad reviews must be due to mishandling the discs, or misreading the instructions.

NOTE: The big red warning on the disc holder is there for a reason! The disc MUST be kept wet during the resurfacing! PLUS, even if you run out of the special fluid you may use ordinary tap water!

5.0 out of 5 stars Does What It Says It Will Do, March 27, 2002

I tried it, it works. In response to complaints of people who say it made more scratches and rendered their disc unplayable, I feel they didn't follow the directions properly. The unit comes with very well-written, comprehensive and easy-to-understand instructions and makes a point of telling the user to make sure and follow them! By following the instructions, and that includes spraying the cd with included distilled water prior to the sanding process, I really don't see how anyone could ruin a disc. I suspect they didn't use enough water, which is akin to driving your car without any motor oil.

This product is easy to use, takes about 10 minutes or less for the entire process (from putting in the cd and spraying, to removing the cd, drying and buffing it), and I've found it does what it says it is supposed to do. If you have very deep scratches (like gouges), or a scratch on the label side, this product will not be effective and the instructions tell you that up front. But for lesser damage done, for example by cretins who don't respect library materials, it does an excellent job. Everything worked just like it was supposed to, and the instructions tell you exactly what to do. Sorry for repeating myself but it's important: just follow the instructions!

I believe the creator of this product really put a lot of effort into making it consumer-friendly, as well as being a quality product. It shows in the well-written instruction manual.

This item is well worth the purchase price if only to save that one expensive or no-longer-available damaged disc! Note: this product is also known as Game Doctor, Skip Doctor, and Data Doctor, but they're identical. Also, a motorized version is available..., but in my opinion unless you have a physical impairment, the motor isn't necessary. Cranking by hand is not going to make you break a sweat.
