I've repaired 10 CDs with this product and a DVD as well. Some of the scratches were fairly deep too. It works up to a point. It has also ruined a couple of my DVDs despite my ising it exactly the same way and following instructions. The key is to keep the disk wet (with very clean water) and to have a functional sanding wheel. After the sanding disk begins to wear it will begin to sand in a slightly non-radial direction. Once the new sand marks become non-radial it makes the disc worse than it was before. I.E. This product only works if the sanding direction is close to radial. For those that say that it scratches their disks even worse, there is partial truth here... it does sand radially. The CD/DVD will still work as long as the new sand marks stay radial in direction-- this is the key. When the marks start to become non-radial, this is your cue to throw the sanding disk away and replace it. (and redo the CD/DVD you were just working on with the new disk). It also helps to clean the sanding wheel after usage. I was tired of reading reviews from people that either state its great or garbage, but not qualifying either. The fact is that the product does work but in my experience only 10 CDs before it will fail and need replacement parts. I've also noticed that DVDs require much more buffing after sanding in order to work. Then again I've had to do a lot of sanding to affect individual repairs; my 10 repairs could very well be 30 of other people's repairs. One repair in particualar was note worthy. My company created a master documentation CD but no backups. Then a certain person, bleary eyed, wrote with permanent marker on the wrong side of the disk. This tool brought it back from the dead and saved us a lot of time and money. Expect to replace the sanding wheel and watch the direction of the sanding marks and things should go well for you.

1.0 out of 5 stars Heed everyone's advice, July 30, 2005
This review is from: Skipdoctor CD Repair Kit (Electronics)
I operate the CD/DVD resurfacing machine at a movie store. I can not count how many people have come to me asking me to fix their beloved movies after using this product. Fortunately for most of them I have been able to fix the problems.

One person was so irate that he said he was going to throw the thing out. I told him I would resurface his movies for free if he gave me the skipdoctor. I was curious to see for myself if it was the product or the operator. I have resurfaced thousands of movies in the past 4 years and knew that I would be able to operate it correctly.

The customer agreed and I went to work on a variety of our damaged stock from slightly damaged to needing a full resurface job. The skipdoctor lived up to all of the negative reviews that I have read here. I can not explain the success a few peopl have claimed to have had. Perhaps their DVD player was simply dusty and they cleaned the laser along with "fixing" their dvds. Quite possibly they put the dvd in the skipdoctor upside down and fixed the wrong side. They may have seen improvements when the lint fell off of the correct surface.

Bottom line if you want to raise your stress level and spend more money coming to see someone like me buy this product. If you are wise you will buy a lens cleaner and get your discs resurfaced by someone or something that can actually do the job.

I father got one of these for Christmas this year. I tried it on one of my Dreamcast games and the game is now ruined. It will not even load in my Dreamcast. It also left permanent marks on the disc. I followed the instructions exactly as they were written. I would recommend trying this product only as a last resort (if your game is already ruined).

Like everyone else I thought the 1 star people had a 1 star IQ. Well I guess the egg is on my face. Three dvds less in my collection and I realize maybe I should listen to people. I had to think about this now. This product calls itself the SkipDoctor. Who out there would go to a doctor that has a 60% success rate and more horror stories than I care to read about. At 3 out of 5 stars that is not very good. It is even worse if you consider that all of the 1 star people would want to give it 0 stars. This is one doctor that needs its licensed revoked!!!

I bought this for $29.99. If I would have been able to use it before I purchased it, I wouldn't have paid more than $5.00.
First off, it's a cheap piece of plastic. Second, you have to crank this stupid thing for about three minutes clockwise and counterclockwise. Mine, only went counterclockwise, it wouldn't go clockwise like the directions said it would. The cleaning solution is nothing more than water, it even says on the bottle.
There are plenty of other cleaners out there for $9.99.
I wrote this review based on cleaning DVD's.

Maybe the reason so many others are having problems is that they aren't following instructions? The final buffing with the square pad is a very important step and should not be overlooked and you should buff until the spiraling that the crank part leaves is removed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful money-saving product!!, February 8, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Skipdoctor CD Repair Kit (Electronics)
I've had a Skip Doctor for about a year and a half and have mangaged to save about 15 unusable CDs and eight or ten DVDs. In fact I've bought a few DVDs for a bargain on eBay that the seller said was damaged and managed to make them perfectly playable!!

The key is following the directions and take your time. Make sure you keep the disc very wet during the process and polish it out with the white cloth. Another thing I've found that helps is after you've repaired a few discs the abrasive wheel becomes less abrasive as it gets barely clogged with the material it rubs off the discs. Keep that wheel clean and the device will work flawlessly. The people that say it ruined their discs were either not keeping the disc wet or probably not patient enough to use this - I have spent as much as 20 minutes going over and over the disc until it's fixed and it has never caused one of my discs to become worse after using it.

It is a great product, but it does require the user to read the directions and be patient to make it work properly.

this is the most ridiculous piece of cd repair equipment out there. i bought this thing and followed the directions meticulously, but to no avail. the only thing this machine is good for is hiding scratches on your cds by adding more scratches. if you want to repair your cds DO NOT BUY THIS MACHINE!!!!
