I received this Digital Labs Model K101 Digital Frame as a gift. I write this review only because while it sat on an end table next to my chair it began crackling, then an odor quickly began, then smoke rolled from the top of it. It was catching on fire. This all happened within seconds. If we had not been home or even in that room at the time I am certain it would have caught flame. I do not know if this is a freak happening for this frame or typical. I just know it happened and want others to be aware.

WARNING!!! Limited to 426 photos. The frame looks great and displays pictures ok. However, it is limited to 426 photos no matter what card or format you use. I had a 2 Gb USB memory stick inserted with over 1100 photos and it only displayed 426 of them. I tried spreading them across 4 folders with no luck. I tried the same set of photos using a 1 Gb SD card. Same result! These 1100 photos only take up 0.5 Gb of memory on the cards. Steer clear of this product if you want to display a large number of photos.

My sister gave this to my parents as a Christmas gift. I set everything up for them so I'm adding my .02 review.

For the price - Black Friday $39.99 and some sort of rebate - it ain't bad. It does what you'd expect. The fit-n-finish is better than average. The "frames" are cheep plastic, but again, nothing I would not expect for this price range.
The screen is okay. I've seen brighter screens and I've seen dimmer ones.
The memory issue others have mentioned could be a problem for some. I, personally, have no issue with it not having a battery backup.
I also had no issues setting the thing up - adding photos. I used an SD card loaded with JPEGs. They look good from just about any angle.

Yes, the manual leaves a lot to be desired.
Yes, it would be nice if it had internal memory and a battery backup.

But for the price it is better than most "cheap" digi photo frames.
If you can get one for less than $35, I say, go for it, it'll be acceptable to most.

Page 4 of the manual describing card select "... to select card". Great - what's a card. Called tech support and they will call me back anytime in the next 2 days. If you unplug the device the clock loses time - no battery backup. It wasn't clear to me how to insert a Sony memory stick. Couldn't use pictures from a memory stick. Pictures from a USB drive work nice. It was a gift so don't know how others compare for the price.

Received this frame as a gift, not a fan of it.

resolution is poor, screen is small, interface is awkward, and the frame freezes up on particular JPEGS.

There are thousands of digital picture frames on the market, stick with a major brand. I can not even find the manufacturers website to file a complaint.

In summary, stay away!

Where should I start? How about with the photos. This unit has two display modes 16:9 and 4:3. In 16:9 mode, photos fill the entire screen but faces are stretched so everyone looks fat. In 4:3 mode, photos are displayed in letter-box format with black bars on each side. You'd think the stretching problem would go away but it doesn't. Instead people are tall and skinny. I have tried cropping my photos to 16:9 before loading them to no avail. This unit simply won't display photos correctly.

So if you can get past the horrible display of your favorite photos (maybe you just have landscapes for example) there are more issues. The auto-on feature doesn't work because it starts displaying the stock photos instead of your photos. Setting the clock is pointless because it will reset if you unplug the frame. The interface is painful to use. My remote never worked so I'm constantly searching for the right button on the back. Inserting the SD card is also a pain. The slot is about double the width of a SD card so if a user were to insert one upside down, or crooked, they will probably be scratching their head as to why their photos aren't popping up on the screen.

As for the pro's. Well mine hasn't caught fire yet and when its turned off it is pleasant to look at. Maybe I'll just print a nice photo and stick it over the screen.

BTW, I received this as a gift from a distant relative...I would've returned it 10 minutes after taking it out of the box if I bought it myself.

Failed after a few months. I purchased a Digital Labs 7" digital picture frame from the 'deal of the day' on eBay for less that $9 with free shipping. How could I go wrong? I liked the features. After a few months of use, I heard a loud crash. I thought something heavy had fallen. After looking all over my condo, I noticed that the digital picture frame was not functioning. No amount of coaxing would get it going. I figured that since the price was so low, I'd simply find a more reliable frame. Keeping an eye out on Amazon revealed a Coby frame in the $20-$30 range so I ordered that. I've had success with Coby products in the past and felt comfortable with this. Well, it lasted barely a month, then it died. I imagine that Coby will repair or replace it but it'll require a trip to the post office during the Christmas season. No way! Then today, in a sale tabloid, Staples had a Sungate frame on sale for $19.99. I rushed to Staples and there was one left! I like it (so far). It appears that these inexpensive frames are prone to failure. My Sungate has been performing for around three hours now. I cannot recommend the Digital Labs frame since it only lasted a few months.

Update: Sungate frame is still performing well on May 31.

So far I have no complaints with this product. Got it about 8 months ago and it's still working great. Definitely not be the best picture quality out there on a digital photo frame. But for the price, it's well worth it.

The advantage of this is that it is cheap. Picture is not nearly as clear as either on my laptop or ipad and it has limited functionality.
